What to Expect From Star Wars Movies & Series In 2025

Summary

  • 2025 will bring new exciting Star Wars adventures to TV screens with Andor Season 2 and Star Wars Visions.
  • Star Wars Celebration in April may provide updates on Andor Season 2 and potentially more Lucasfilm news.
  • A trailer for the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu film is also likely in 2025.

2024 was once again a year without any Star Wars movies in the cinemas, but the Galaxy Far, Far Away provided some new TV series for fans to enjoy on Disney+. In 2025, Star Wars fans will once again bring some exciting adventures to the small screen, but there may also be some major updates from other corners of the galaxy.

Last year saw two new live-action Star Wars series released on Disney+. One was the ambitious Sith origin story The Acolyte, starring Amandla Stenberg and Manny Jacinto, which received mixed reviews and ultimately didn’t earn a second season. The other was Star Wars: Skeleton Crew which is still currently airing its first season on Disney+. The new series has shown promise with its nostalgic lens and strong young cast, but its future is unclear as of now. Looking to the year ahead, the Star Wars universe has plenty more to offer its fans, including the return of some fan-favorite series.

All The New Star Wars Movies & Series Coming Out in 2025

Andor Season 2 Will Be Released In April

The dark and gritty rebellion thriller Andor impressed audiences in 2022 as it filled in the backstory of thief turned rebel fighter Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) before Rogue One. The second season will chart Cassian’s journey right up until the days before Rogue One begins, as well as continue the story of his comrades Luthen (Stellan Skarsgard), Bix (Adria Arjona), Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), and more. Season 2 will also see Ben Mendelsohn reprise his role as Orson Krennic, and will re-introduce Alan Tudyk as the voice of the droid K-2SO. Season 1 of Andor was one of the most impressive series out of the Star Wars universe yet, so Season 2 has a high bar to meet when it releases on April 22.

Star Wars Celebration Will Bring News in April

Andor’s release occurs shortly after the annual Star Wars Celebration convention which is taking place in Japan this year. The event is a three-day celebration of all things Lucasfilm and Star Wars and often brings news and updates from the Galaxy Far, Far Away. No doubt much of the event will be spent promoting Andor’s new season, but previous Star Wars Celebrations have led to major announcements about Lucasfilm’s plans, such as Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey, so it will no doubt be an event Star Wars fans will want to pay attention to.

Season 3 of Star Wars Vision Will Be Released

The only other confirmed 2025 release on the Star Wars slate is Season 3 of Star Wars Visions. Lucasfilm confirmed the animated anthology series would be returning late last year and is set for release sometime in 2025. The third volume will include content from a variety of animation studios out of Japan, including Kamikaze Douga, Kinema citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER. Star Wars Visions is one of the highest-rated projects out of the Lucasfilm universe so expectations are high for the third volume.

Updates On Ahsoka Season 2

Ahsoka 03

The other major Star Wars series in development right now is Ahsoka Season 2. A second season of the series was confirmed to be in development in early 2024 and is expected to begin filming sometime in 2025. While Ahsoka Season 2 probably won’t be released until 2026, at the earliest, some news from the set of the film is likely in the coming year as production begins. Ahsoka served as a live-action reunion for the characters once seen in Dave Filoni’s animated series Star Wars Rebels and many fans are eager to see where their journey goes next.

A Trailer For The Mandalorian and Grogu is Likely

The Mandalorian and his young companion Grogu will soon be making the jump from Disney+ to the big screen. While the film isn’t scheduled for release until 2026, filming on The Mandalorian and Grogu was completed in 2024, meaning more plot details or at least a trailer is likely to be released in 2025. Pedro Pascal is starring in the film along with Sigourney Weaver in an undisclosed role and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt.

Other Updates From Corners of the Star Wars Universe

Rey Skywalker

Lucasfilm is spinning many plates in its Star Wars universe right now with films from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Shawn Levy all currently in development at the studio. There’s also the recently announced trilogy from Simon Kinberg that is in the works, plus the Lando and Rogue Squadron films that are on the back burner. Hopefully, the coming year will bring some updates from these projects. Fans can also look forward to updates from the video game side of the Star Wars universe in the coming year as well.
