Rocket’s Moltres ex
Team Rocket Returns – $329.99
A fascinating card from Team Rocket Returns, this version of the legendary bird has fallen to the dark side, with its primary typing being Darkness. In the Pokemon Adventures manga, Team Rocket does capture a Moltres and uses it for their villainy.
The ex in Pokemon ex stands for extra since ex related Pokemon and abilities often have extra effects to them and their attacks.
Another neat little bit of trivia with this card, in the video games, there is a real move your Pokemon can learn called Firey Dance, which is close to this Moltres’ Fire Dance attack. Except Moltres can’t learn Firey Dance, oddly enough.
9
Rocket’s Entei ex
Team Rocket Returns – $345.95
Another Pokemon that has taken a liking to evil, Rocket’s Entei ex also bucks traditional typing to give your Pokemon a dark twist. This Entei is a Darkness-type, though its attacks require Fire Energy to get going.
With its Energy Link attack, you can chip away at your opponent’s Pokemon, dealing ten damage at a time while ramping Entei up with Energy from your discard pile. Once you hit three Energy, you can use Entei’s Volcanic Ash attack to dish out 60 damage to any of your opponent’s Pokemon.

M Charizard ex
Flashfire – $357.08
Mega Evolutions took the concept of ex Pokemon and ramped them up to a whole new level. This version of Mega Charizard depicts it in its X form, which takes on the Dragon typing rather than the pure Fire-type of the Mega Charizard Y evolution.

Hidden Fates shakes some trends, but Tag Team Trainers and Pokemon still reign supreme.
The M Charizard ex was the first card in the game to have a base attack damage of 300 and remains one of the strongest single-card attacks. This version of the card is the Secret Rare version, which has more gold features in the text boxes around the card.
7
Celebi ex
Unseen Forces – $399.99
A secret card from the Unseen Forces expansion, Celebi ex is a neat card that lets you do some interesting things with both you and your opponent’s Pokemon. The Spiral Leaf attack costs just one Grass Energy and has you flip a coin. If heads, you put a damage counter on each of your opponent’s Pokemon. And on tails, you heal all your Pokemon by one damage counter.
You can keep up the coin shenanigans with Time Trap, dealing 30 damage and letting you manipulate the top four cards of your or your opponent’s deck depending on the coin flip results.
6
Espeon ex
Unseen Forces – $432.67
Amazing artwork on an old Espeon card and you have the perfect mixture for a collector’s dream. Espeon ex from Unseen Forces gives you plenty of ways to manipulate the game in your favor, especially with its Devo Flash Poke-Power.
This ability forcibly de-evolves your opponent’s evolved Pokemon, taking the highest stage and popping it back into their hand. This type of tempo card keeps your opponents on the backstep, giving you the chance to take out their weaker Pokemon or to shut down their next turn play, especially if you have some way to make them shuffle their hand into their deck afterward.
5
Pikachu ex – 238
Surging Sparks – $487.27
One of the newer additions to valuable ex cards, Pikachu ex from Surging Sparks brings the electric mouse to the tera era with some powerful abilities. Terastallized into the Stellar Type, the special illustration rare Pikachu ex is an incredibly rare card, and when combined with the beautiful artwork, makes for a great collector piece.

4
Rocket’s Snorlax ex
Team Rocket Returns – $549.50
Back to the classic era of Pokemon trading cards, Rocket’s Snorlax ex from the Team Rocket Returns set can stick around for a long time thanks to a solid Poke-Body ability and some solid attacks.
The Dark Healer ability heals one damage counter from Snorlax ex between each turn so long as it has a Darkness Energy attached to it, letting you keep that HP constantly climbing each turn. Then you have your pick of two different attacks to both damage and apply some status effects while you’re at it.
3
Charizard ex
FireRed & LeafGreen – $694.99
Talk about a powerful card, this Charizard ex from the FireRed & LeafGreen expansion lets you do whatever you want with your Energy cards, powering up Charizard ex until you can unleash its ultimate attack.
Charizard ex has a special Poke-Body ability called Energy Flame, transforming all Energy attached to it into Fire-Type. This is great since Charizard ex’s best attack, Burn Down, deals 200 damage while also ignoring pretty much all other effects that would change the amount of damage Charizard ex would do.
2
Umbreon ex
Unseen Forces – $763.33
Much like its psychic counterpart, Umbreon ex from Unseen Forces helps you keep your opponents playing catch-up with a powerful ability. The Poke-Power Darker Ring has you swapping out your opponent’s active Pokemon with another from their Bench.
Once you’ve disrupted their strategy, you can use Umbreon ex’s Black Cry attack to prevent your opponent from being able to retreat their active Pokemon out, giving you all the time in the world to knock them out.
1
Charizard EX – 276
XY Promos – $850.00
The top most valuable ex card to make its way to the Pokemon Trading Card Game is the promo version of the Charizard ex variant from the Flashfire era. This card comes from the Pokemon Card Game Art Collection from 2016 and is only available in Japanese.
The card depicts Charizard getting bullied by a Venusaur, trapped in the Grass-type Pokemon’s lengthy vines, though based on the fire spilling from Charizard’s mouth, it won’t be trapped for long.
