Surprise, $7 multiplayer hit Liar’s Bar is getting its own answer to Balatro

2024 was a year packed with surprise hits, from Palworld and Helldivers 2 to the all-conquering might of Balatro. Among those winners was Liar’s Bar, which soared on a wave of YouTube and Twitch popularity to a Steam player count peak of more than 113,000. Combining the classic multiplayer games of Liar’s Dice and Cheat with the high-stakes thrill of virtual Russian roulette, it holds a 92% positive user review score. As developer Curve Animation works towards launch, it notes that its next mode is coming very soon.

If you’ve yet to experience Liar’s Bar, it’s quite something. Its cast of highly animated, anthropomorphic animal friends bring a delightful personality to proceedings, helping amplify the inherent tension of these deception-based multiplayer games. As someone who still laments the lack of Liar’s Dice in Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s also nice to have another way to jump into online matches with my friends – and the low price point makes it a relatively easy sell.

“We’re shuffling your poker deck,” Curve Animation writes in a new post shared to the game’s Steam page. “The highly anticipated Liar’s Poker is coming soon to your table.” As much fun as Liar’s Dice and Cheat (known in-game as Liar’s Deck) are, the slightly more complex bluffing mechanics of poker should make for a particularly interesting twist. While not a ‘poker game’ in the true sense, the success of Balatro will likely also mean your friends are at least familiar with the various hands in play, too.

Liar’s Poker was previously teased to be part of the full release once Liar’s Bar left early access, with a proposed Liar’s Roulette set to join it, but the card game now appears to be on the way sooner than expected. While we’re yet to get an exact date, you’ll want to keep your eyes on the game, as we shouldn’t be waiting much longer to try it out. A leaderboard system was also recently integrated, following the introduction of chaos mode.

Keep an eye out for 2025’s next unexpected hit among the best indie games on PC. Or, if you’ve had enough of antagonizing your friends, try one of the best co-op games instead.
