In Vampyr, players step into the year 1914 during World War 1 as the British surgeon, Johnathan Ried. While strolling through the streets of London, Ried becomes the victim of a vampire, but he narrowly escapes. Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of his problems as he contracts vampirism and must quickly learn the rules before he becomes a monster.
Ried tries to maintain his humanity by refusing to feed on human beings and attempting to track down his sire in order to cure himself. Johnathan grows strong with every vampire he cuts down to get closer to the source. Johnathan gains extremely potent abilities such as shadow manipulation, blood manipulation, and invisibility.
