Pokemon TCG Pocket Only Has Four Decks Strong Against Mewtwo And Gyarados

Pokemon TCG Pocket Only Has Four Decks Strong Against Mewtwo And Gyarados

Summary

  • Only four decks have a favorable win rate against both Gyarados ex and Mewtwo ex decks.
  • Aerodactyl ex and Farfetch’d, Mew ex and Greninja, and Marowak ex and Aerodactyl ex are the top counters.
  • The analysis by -OA- highlights specific decks with high win rates, preparing players for a competitive edge.

While Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s battling meta is still figuring itself out following the release of the Mythical Island expansion, two decks have become stalwarts of the game—Gyarados ex and Mewtwo ex.

These two decks dominate the battling scene and, thus, are two of the most common decks encountered in the game’s competitive modes.

With the decks appearing so regularly, it’s only natural that players are looking for the best counters, and new research has found that there are only four decks that can stand up to both Gyarados ex and Mewtwo ex.

Only Four Pokemon TCG Pocket Decks Stand A Chance Against The Mewtwo And Gyarados

This new research comes from regular Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket number cruncher -OA- on Reddit. Previously, they’ve worked out both the Genetic Apex and Mythical Island meta, as well as the perfect Mewtwo ex deck. Now, their latest analysis sees them looking at the decks that are effective against the game’s two most popular.

-OA- reports that only four decks have an above 50 percent win rate against both Mewtwo ex and Gyarados ex decks. They found the following:

  • Aerodactyl ex and Farfetch’d – ~60 percent win rate against Gyarados ex decks/~50 percent win rate against Mewtwo ex decks
  • Mew ex and Greninja – ~52 percent win rate against Gyarados ex decks/~54 percent win rate against Mewtwo ex decks
  • Marowak ex and Aerodactyl ex – ~51 percent win rate against Gyarados ex decks/~53 percent win rate against Mewtwo ex decks
  • Gyarados ex and Greninja – ~52 percent win rate against Gyarados ex decks/~70 percent win rate against Mewtwo ex decks

Of course, it seems strange that a Gyarados ex deck has an above 50 percent win rate against other Gyarados ex decks, but -OA-‘s research looked at one specific Gyarados ex deck (with Greninja) versus the multitude of different Gyarados combinations being used in the game.

It’s also interesting to note that only two cards appear twice: Aerodactyl ex with its Primeval Law ability and Greninja with its Water Shuriken ability.

Farfetch’d is probably the most out-of-place Pokemon on the list, but it works as a perfect counter to Gyarados ex decks, potentially KO’ing Magikarp on the user’s first or second turn.

With a new expansion set to release in the coming weeks, the meta will face another major shake-up, but for now, use this information wisely.
