One Marvel Rivals Breakout Star Deserves their Own Solo Game

One Marvel Rivals Breakout Star Deserves their Own Solo Game

Marvel Rivals has quickly become a massive hit since its December launch, gaining widespread popularity in just a few weeks. Its recognizable roster of Marvel Comics heroes and villains has served well to boost the game’s popularity, with Marvel Rivals Season 0 debuting with an impressive total of 33 heroes. Though there are several notable characters in Marvel Rivals, one hero in particular has proven that they are worthy of their own dedicated video game.

When the Marvel Rivals Alpha playtest arrived in May, it had a significantly smaller cast of 19 heroes. During the Closed Beta, Jeff the Land Shark made his grand debut. Since NetEase Games added him to the third-person shooter, Jeff has been heralded as one of the cutest characters in the game and the focus of several Marvel Rivals memes.

Jeff The Land Shark Deserves To Headline His Own Game

Jeff the Land Shark Has Already Won Over Marvel Rivals Fans

When Jeff the Land Shark arrived in the game, it was apparent that Marvel Rivals gave the MCU a golden goose. It’s worth noting that Jeff is not an original character created for Marvel Rivals; he has appeared in other games, like Marvel Snap, and in the comics. In lore, the land shark was initially created by MODOK in West Coast Avengers Vol. 3 (2018). He was later adopted and taken care of by Gwenpool, which led him to be strongly connected to the Young Avengers.

Though some of the Marvel Rivals player base seem divided over whether Jeff is cute, the bane of their existence, or potentially both, it’s clear that he’s become one of the most significant characters. After all, competing with a stacked roster of iconic heroes like Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Captain America is no easy feat. Interestingly, it seems to be Jeff the Land Shark’s ultimate ability that has driven some players to dislike him, though there is undoubtedly more than one reason.

Marvel’s Jeff The Land Shark Could Get a Game Like Untitled Goose Game

Regardless of his ultimate or viability in the current meta, with his comic miniseries It’s Jeff (2021) and his growing popularity in Marvel Rivals, now may be the perfect time for Marvel to spotlight Jeff in a solo title. As a whimsical little shark, it seems fitting that a dedicated project would be just as playful and cute as him. Games like Untitled Goose Game, Goat Simulator, and I Am Bread come to mind.

“Now may be the perfect time for Marvel to spotlight Jeff in a solo title.”

Considering that Marvel Rivals recently released its first limited-time mode, Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, a full-blown game has strong potential. It could capture the same quirky charm as Deadpool’s 2013 game of the same name but with less abrasive humor while including fun nods to other Marvel characters. Since Kate Bishop, Gwenpool, and Deadpool have played key roles in Jeff’s storyline, it would be great to see some crossover there as well.

A list of notable characters Jeff the Land Shark has been involved with includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • America Chavez
  • Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)
  • Deadpool (Wade Wilson)
  • Elsa Bloodstone
  • Fuse (Johnny Watts)
  • Gwenpool (Gwendolyn Poole)
  • Hawkeye (Kate Bishop)
  • MODOK
  • Power Pack

With Jeff the Land Shark gaining so many fans in Marvel Rivals, both new and old, now seems like the perfect time for NetEase Games or Marvel to seize the opportunity. His infectious speech, adorable mannerisms, and charm make him an ideal candidate to be the protagonist of his own game. In this manner, Marvel could also appeal to more casual gamers.
