Marvel Rivals Apologises For Accidental Bans

Marvel Rivals is in a very comfortable spot right now. A hero shooter with literal heroes (and villains) and an almost endless source of new content. That, along with the fact that it has almost no competition, means Tencent has struck gold. This is especially impressive given the fate of Concord, Overwatch, and many other multiplayer games.

Marvel Rivals’ Success Will Be Down To More Than Just Its IP

Keeping people playing a live service game requires more than well-known heroes, and Rivals is already demonstrating it’s well aware of that.

However, that doesn’t mean that the game is perfect. There are still some balancing issues that need to be ironed out, and there have also been reports of players getting banned for seemingly no reason. The devs have now addressed the issue and explained why these bans have affected players who aren’t cheating.

Marvel Rivals Accidentally Banned Many Players

As spotted by GamesRadar+, community manager James explained what was going on in the game’s Discord server. Apparently, these bans have only affected those playing Marvel Rivals in compatibility layer programs. These programs allow you to play games or run applications on other operating systems. While it’s not cheating, the game’s anti-cheat software didn’t account for it and has flagged it as such.

“Recently, we’ve received feedback from players regarding an issue where some individuals playing in compatibility layer programs have been mistakenly flagged as cheaters, even without using any cheating software,” explained James. “This has resulted in bans. We sincerely apologize for this situation and want to assure you that we do not and will not ban players who are playing fairly and without cheating.”

The developers have addressed the issue and lifted the bans of those affected by this issue. They have also apologised to those who were mistakenly banned.

“Our mission is to provide all players with a fair, just, and enjoyable gaming environment. Therefore, preventing and identifying cheaters is one of our top priorities,” James continued. We have invested significant manpower and resources to improve the speed and accuracy of our detection systems. With any ongoing detection system, there is always room for improvement. We appreciate your assistance in helping us tackle this challenge.”

While Netease is working on fixing its anti-cheat, it seems it can’t do much about leaks. Only yesterday we got a leaked image of the season one artwork, featuring The Fantastic Four and a first look at The Invisible Woman, Sue Storm.
