Here’s every character from the first Hades game who has returned in Hades.
Hecate spirited the already-sleeping Hypnos away from the House of Hades during Chronos’ attack, along with the baby Melinoë and her family portrait. Though he remains in an impenetrable slumber still, he sometimes seems to reply to Melinoë when she speaks to him, and she is determined to find a way to wake him. While the quest is currently unfinished, there are steps you can take to begin to wake Hypnos.
Hades 2 is still in Early Access at the point of writing, so some information in this guide may change over time.
End Of Deepest Slumber Incantation
Added in the Olympus Update is an Incantation that allows Melinoë to craft Dream Vapors, which might help with Hypnos’ little condition. The End of Deepest Slumber Incantation requires one Moly, two Mandrake, and three Poppy.
If the Incantation doesn’t appear in the Cauldron, try gifting Hypnos some Nectar and talking to him — he won’t reply and you won’t get any friendship benefits, but it should give Melinoë the idea for the Incantation.
Moly can be collected from Erebus, but Mandrake and Poppy both need to be grown in the Crossroads using seeds collected from the Rift of Thessaly and Tartarus, respectively, and grown in Melinoë’s garden. It will take some time for the Incantation to complete, but no worries — another run should cover that.
Equipping the Silver Spade will make finding Mandrake and Poppy seeds much easier.
What Are Dream Vapors?
Completing the End of Deepest Slumber Incantation will grant Melinoë one Dream Vapor, which can then be gifted to Hypnos. The description of Dream Vapors states that they’re “Mostly used for attempting to rouse Hypnos.” They can only be gifted to Hypnos and currently have no other use.
“Waking” Hypnos
Gifting Hypnos a Dream Vapor will, unfortunately, not wake him. What it will do is begin a flashback sequence, taking Melinoë into a cardboard cutout scene depicting the House of Hades and its denizens. Here, you can sort of interact with the perpetually dreaming god of sleep.
Hypnos remains asleep, even in his own dream. If you speak to him, he’ll mumble out “Welcome to the House of Hades,” and “I’m awake,” but won’t properly reply to Melinoë. After speaking to him for a moment, the dream will end, returning Melinoë to the Crossroads.
This is the extent of Hypnos’ content as of the time of writing. Hades 2 is still in early access, with another major update planned for early 2025. But maybe keep some Poppy on hand for him just in case.
