Ayase Momo is a charismatic teenager with a boisterous personality. Although She can be loud, violent, and, at times, quick-tempered, she cares deeply for her friends. At the start of the series, Momo is portrayed as a strong woman who stands firm in what she believes in, contrary to her violent antics.
Momo was a non-believer of the aliens at the start of the series. However, she believed in ghosts, as her grandmother was a psychic, although Momo had not yet seen a ghost at the time. However, after meeting Takakura Ken, nicknamed Okarun, Momo began to believe in aliens.
However, after daring each other to visit local occult sightings, Momo awakens her latent psychic abilities, and Turbo Granny possesses Okarun. During this display, Momo begins to show her intellect, quickly advising Okarun with her knowledge of the local legend. Here, we see Momo’s intellectual abilities shine as she takes the stage in all of their strategic plans.

How Smart is Momo?

Throughout the series, Momo has shown incredible intellect and the ability to quickly deduce a situation and its dangers. In various instances, She has used her quick thinking to provide adequate advice to her friends, assisting in de-escalating the situation and solving problems as they arise.
Although Momo was utterly unaware of her latent abilities, she followed her grandmother’s advice, opened her chakra, and released her Qi. This allowed her to use her psychokinetic powers to her benefit, which will come in handy throughout the series in various ways.
Although Momo had little knowledge of how to use her powers, she quickly concluded that her psychic abilities could keep Okarun’s curse under control. However, this will only work if Momo is actively concentrated on the task; if not, Okarun’s curse will once again run wild.
If my view of Okarun is blocked by some kind of obstacle… The curse will break loose again!

One thing about Momo is that she intricately understands her and her friends’ situations. Although Momo is a powerful psychic user and is the brains of many of the situations, her friends are the combatants. Momo primarily uses her powers to hold down her enemies, preventing them from attacking her friends and herself.
As with the instance with Turbo Granny, Momo had to challenge herself to keep Okarun’s curse under control while devising a plan to get them out of their situation, displaying her ability to multitask in a stressful situation. In this instance, Momo quickly utilized the hot springs to render the Bound Spirit incapable of moving. Immediately after this, Momo placed herself and Okarun in an advantageous situation, utilizing the speeding train to make their getaway while taunting Turbo Granny.

With Dandadan Season 2 set to premiere in July 2025, these characters are poised to break out and become major figures in the series.
In many situations, Momo had been the brains of the operations. This is especially true during the Serpo and Curse House arc. No matter how dire the situation, Momo can quickly figure out a plan of action. During the Serpo arc, Okarun was unable to use Turbo Granny’s abilities, as she could not swim. However, Momo soon realized, with the assistance of her powers, that she could ride Okarun, making their way out of the waters to save Shiratori Aira from drowning.

Furthermore, Momo demonstrates an awareness of her adversary’s vulnerabilities and flaws. While she deserves recognition for her intelligence and tactical skills in combat, her tactics can occasionally be dangerously impulsive and detrimental to her well-being. This is first illustrated in her encounter with the Flatwoods Monster. To gain the upper hand and reposition the barrier, Momo endured multiple punches against the wall, creating a safe area for Okarun before she reestablished the barrier.
Although this was a smart move for Momo, as the Flatwoods Monster was stronger than the two of them, who had yet to discover their abilities’ potential, it was also reckless and could have cost her her life if she had not been as resilient as she was. We also see this during the Serpo arc, when Momo battles the Serpo Dover Demon Nessie, as she allows herself to be captured while relying on Okarun to blast through Nessie. Although this plan worked, as it freed them from the alien barrier, Momo will continue to make riskier choices.
