This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final Arc.
Summary
- Nobara is the least fleshed out character in JJK, lacking the attention given to Yuji as the protagonist.
- Nobara still carries a lot of potential and could catch up to Yuji and Megumi with honed techniques.
- Nobara’s growth and chance to shine in JJK’s future may depend on potential side stories or spin-offs from the manga’s conclusion.
From the very beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, fans could tell that Nobara was going to be extremely important. After all, she was a part of the main trio in the story, which, as is often the case in the shonen series, drove the plot forward more than anyone else. That said, Nobara being a woman certainly made fans wonder whether the author would be able to do justice to her or not. Often, in the Shonen series, female characters get pushed to the side and are not given as much attention as the other main characters. Even the main female characters are often treated in a subpar manner. Unfortunately, Jujutsu Kaisen did just that.

It has to be said that Nobara is one of the worst-written female characters in Shonen history, and the author couldn’t do justice to her character, especially after cutting her out of the majority of the story and only bringing her back about three chapters before the end. That said, Nobara still carries a lot of potential, and if JJK were to ever continue, fans could see her catch up to the other two, provided that the author actually puts some effort into fixing everything that’s wrong with her progression.
Yuji Itadori, Nobara, and Megumi’s Progression In JJK
- Yuji Itadori Was Given The Most Attention As The Protagonist
- Nobara Was The Least Fleshed Out Character
Jujutsu Kaisen is certainly a fantastic story and even though it has many faults, it still has a lot of incredibly intriguing elements that fans have come to love over the years. From exciting battles all the way to cathartic scenes, JJK has many things to proudly display. But, the progression of the main characters, especially of the next generation, such as Yuji and Megumi, certainly was not its highlight. It can be said that Yuji was dealt with far better than the other two characters, but that should be expected, given that he is the main character. But, even in the case of this main character, the author certainly didn’t do as well as he could. The vast majority of Yuji’s growth came in the last few chapters of the manga, which just goes to show how rushed this progression was.
I can’t be the only one going back when those two are out there still fighting. – Nobara
As far as Megumi goes, fans know that while he carried a lot of potential, something he was known for in the JJK community, he never truly got to fulfill it. Megumi did not even finish his domain and the vast majority of his strength remained unexplored. In the Shibuya Incident arc, Megumi’s body was taken over by Sukuna, and from that moment onwards, right until the very end of the story, Megumi remained under Sukuna’s control, only to be freed at the end. As such, Megumi’s progression was halted greatly as well.
Nobara’s case was the worst out of all three. While the other two got some moments here and there in the story, Nobara was only focused on in the beginning. Fans were very hopeful upon seeing how Nobara’s character progressed In the first parts of the story. However, as JJK continued, it became increasingly clear that she would not be as important.
In fact, she was presumed dead in the Shibuya Incident arc, and, from that point on, the author never focused on her in the story right up until the very end. Nobara only went on to return a few chapters before the story wrapped up, delivered one blow to Sukuna, and called it a day. While her return was certainly not out of the question, given that there were always hints about her eventual comeback, the timing of it was completely off and fans certainly did not appreciate that.
How Nobara Can Catch Up To The Others
Nobara Kugisaki Is Lagging Far Behind But Has The Potential To Catch Up
It goes without saying that Nobara is quite powerful right now. Of course, she is not as strong as Yuji, or even Yuta, but she certainly carries a lot of potential. Gojo once said that the next generation would not stop at Special Grade.
Of course, they didn’t even get to Special Grade, which is yet another indication of weak writing, but, at the very least, they still have that potential.
My name is Nobara Kugisaki. Be glad, boys, I’m the woman in your group. – Nobara
Much of what happens with Nobara’s character depends on how the story progresses from this point onwards. The manga has officially ended, but that doesn’t mean JJK will ever get an additional side story. It is quite common for authors to often write side stories following the conclusion of the main stories, and JJK is no different in that regard. Of course, Gege certainly does want to draw a different story, but, the possibility of there being a JJK one-shot or a mini-series spin-off shouldn’t be out of the question. If that happens and it focuses on the events following the graduation of the sorcerers, then, it can be said that Nobara will have an opportunity to shine. Fans could see her get all the attention that she truly deserves, especially after enduring a very difficult time in the original series.
As for how Nobara can catch up to the other two, it can only be done through honing her technique. The Straw Doll Technique is very powerful, and the biggest advantage that this technique has is that it targets the souls of the enemies directly. Nobara is one of the hardest soul hitters in JJK, probably only second to Yuji. This makes her a massive threat to the vast majority of the fighters in the story, and fans know that she could very well go on to improve upon this technique of hers, and develop it greatly.

JJK Author Gege Teases A Continuation In The Future
Gege’s message in the final volume could be hinting at a continuation of the JJK manga.
If Nobara manages to gain the basic skills that are required to be a high-level sorcerer, such as Domain Amplification, Reverse Cursed Technique, and other anti-domain techniques, along with Barrier Techniques, then fans can expect her to reach a very high level. On top of that, fans could also see Nobara’s Domain Expansion. If she ever manages to get domain expansion, then, she could certainly be among the elites. Nobara’s sure hit technique would hit the soul of the enemy directly and, in many ways, it could be similar to Yuji’s Soul Dismantle that he used on Sukuna. Fans must remember how much damage Yuji dealt to sukuna, and Nobara could do something similar with her powers, which just goes to show that she would be on a very high level if the author actually goes to illustrate her strength in the many battles that could come in the future of JJK.
Will Nobara Ever Get Another Chance To Shine?
Nobara Kugisaki’s Growth Depends On JJK’s Future
Whether Nobara will ever get the chance to shine or not depends greatly on what happens with JJK. As things stand, there is no confirmation of the story getting a continuation in any way or form. But, fans can’t hold on to hope because more often than not, authors tend to write one-shots, spin-offs, or other side stories in one way or another. In case that truly happens, fans will get to enjoy Nobara progressing greatly in the future.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Epilogue was released with its Final Volume. JJK’s Final volume is out in Japan on December 25, 2024. The English version of the Volume will be published at some point in 2025.
