Helldivers 2 has a love-hate relationship with its community. Things were at an all-time high thanks to the Omens of Tyranny update, which brought the Illuminate, melee weapons, and the FRV. The Killzone crossover debacle and subsequent amends caused another dip and high, and the cycle continues.

Helldivers 2 was once an uplifting and collaborative live-service gem, but since launch, the community has become a hotbed of outrage.
However, there has been one thing that has been consistent in the game from day-one, and the community can agree with that too. Arrowhead has released some great armour and helmet sets with each new Warbond for Helldivers 2. While there are no complaints about the new armour sets, fans have been hoping for colour options so they can mix and match them.

Over on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, MichiganKratos6425 has shared a video by YouTuber Muaxh03 that showcased a concept for a colour matching system for the game’s armour sets. This would allow you to match a helmet to another armour’s base colour. It would be a great customization option and we’d see some great combinations.
“If they don’t plan on implementing color customization, then this would be the next best thing. It would open up so many cool helmet/armor combos instead of being locked to the select few that match what armor you’re wearing,” said one reply. Considering the amount of work Arrowhead has put into these armours, it’s unlikely that they’ll want to give us a full colour customization option.
Considering that the devs have given us the option to choose a skin for Hellpods, FRVs, Mechs, and even Pelican-1, it’s not far-fetched to think that we might get an option to match helmets to the base armour.
However, one comment on the video explained why it may not be as easy as it looks. “I think you would need some sort of material field to make sure the textures make sense on the material,” they said. “In the last one when the hard plastic was given a fabric texture it looked weird. I think it would have looked better to have been given the texture of the armour’s black body armour to the helmet rather then the grey fabric.”
