Summary
- Development for GreedFall 2 is slower than anticipated, delaying major content updates.
- Spiders is likely focusing all efforts on GreedFall 2, potentially putting other projects on hold.
- Fans should manage expectations for GreedFall 2 and find appreciation for Spiders’ dedication to quality over quantity.
Despite finally being available in early access, development for GreedFall 2: The Dying World is moving at a very slow pace. While this is somewhat expected, the game’s development is moving at an even slower rate than originally anticipated, especially after the first major content update, which was intended to launch in autumn 2024, was postponed to allow Spiders time to address community feedback and fix various aspects of the game. Ultimately, this means that the long developmental road ahead of GreedFall 2 has only been made longer, and it raises one question about Spiders’ legacy beyond GreedFall.
On the one hand, GreedFall 2‘s slow development is perfectly understandable considering the current state of the game, and its early access state actually leaves room for it to move at a slower pace. However, it can only be assumed that the slower GreedFall 2‘s development progresses, the more energy Spiders will have to dedicate to it, and the less it will have its hands in any other potential projects. Of course, this would see GreedFall 2 getting the treatment it needs and arguably deserves, but it would also likely lead to any other potential Spiders projects being placed on hold.

GreedFall 2’s Slowing Development Might Slow Other Projects Down
Spiders Is More Than Likely Focusing All Its Efforts on GreedFall 2
Spiders has had numerous successes over the years, but none of them have managed to achieve the status that GreedFall has. As one of Spiders’ most successful and beloved titles, GreedFall effectively placed more eyes on Spiders, thereby elevating the developer to a position where much more can be expected from it — a niche in the RPG market. A great deal of GreedFall‘s success lies in its uncanny ability to replicate what made classic BioWare games like Dragon Age: Origins so popular, but it nonetheless earned Spiders a reputation in the gaming community that opened the door for it to continue making great games.
Now, enter GreedFall 2: The Dying World, which hasn’t really managed to capture the public eye like its predecessor did. Unlike GreedFall, GreedFall 2 is in early access, to be fair, so it’s not necessarily expected to be a perfect game from the get-go. That being said, its current issues have led many to hit pause on their time with the sequel until the kinks are worked out of its system — namely, those present within its combat mechanics. But as the GreedFall franchise is, more or less, Spiders’ prized possession, fans can bet the developer is focusing all its efforts on GreedFall 2, which means anything else Spiders had planned has likely been put on hold for the time being.
Any Other Potential Spiders Projects Could Be on the Back Burner
There hasn’t been any news about Spiders working on or planning anything other than GreedFall 2: The Dying World, so ignorance probably truly is bliss in this situation. In other words, without knowing whether Spiders has been planning any other big projects ahead of GreedFall 2, there’s really no way fans can be disappointed by the possibility of those projects being pushed back. At the same time, it would still be a shame to learn that any other potential Spiders games have been delayed, now that GreedFall 2 is likely getting its full attention, especially considering the developer’s potential for greatness, as GreedFall has shown.
Since Spiders is a small studio, it’s highly unlikely that it can afford to have multiple teams working on different projects simultaneously.
For now, it’s important that fans approach GreedFall 2: The Dying World with tempered expectations and an appreciation for Spiders’ dedication to crafting a worthwhile sequel. The developer has already demonstrated its potential with titles like GreedFall, but the current challenges with GreedFall 2 show the studio undergoing a delicate balance of resource management and ambition. While the slower pace of development might delay other potential Spiders projects, it could also solidify the developer’s reputation as one that prioritizes quality over quantity.
