It’s 2025, which means we’re in the launch year of Grand Theft Auto 6. If everything goes according to plan, then we’ll end the year with another entry in the GTA series, 12 years after the release of GTA 5.
However, just three days into the year, and the community is already preparing for the worst. Over in the GTA subreddit, fans are sharing how they’d feel about GTA 6 being hit with a delay, possibly pushing it into 2026 – and many are surprisingly accepting of this hypothetical scenario.

Many say they’d be fine with a delay, as long as it plays well at launch
Over on Reddit, user PlayShelf asks other GTA fans if they’d be upset over a delay, and the responses are pretty surprising.
“Not at all cause it wouldn’t surprise me,” says nickalvizo in one of the top replies, suggesting that many feel the same.
Many say that they’re happy to wait, as long as the game is ready, with DefaultUsername-_ commenting: “Let them complete the game.” Multiple fans point to Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch as a cautionary tale, since that was plagued with bugs and performance issues which took multiple patches and hotfixes to address.
Another thing we’re noticing here is that many see a delay as an inevitability. Rockstar hasn’t suggested this at all, and right now, is saying that GTA 6 will be with us this autumn. But after more than a decade of waiting, it seems that few fans want to get their hopes up.
There was also a rumour going around last year that GTA 6 has internally been delayed to 2026. However, it was also said that these rumours are “overblown”, so it remains to be seen if they prove accurate.
In any case, it’s unsurprising to see fans feeling a little pessimistic after we went a full year without a new GTA 6 trailer. Right now, we only have the trailer that dropped on December 4. Many were utterly convinced that we’d get another one in late December, but that’s come and gone with nothing to show for it. We’ll have to wait and see when Rockstar plans to drop the next one on us – and if GTA 6 manages to stick to 2025 after all.
