The director of Final Fantasy 11 expressed the team’s intention to make the MMORPG more solo-friendly this year. After celebrating its 22nd anniversary in 2024, Square Enix conducted a player satisfaction survey among active and non-active users. One of the top requests was to make certain Final Fantasy 11 content more welcoming to solo players, a plea the development team has embraced and promises to deliver on in 2025.

Launched in 2003, Final Fantasy 11 has received numerous expansions, episodic updates, and ongoing support to keep its active community engaged. A mobile version of Final Fantasy 11 was in the works at one point, but it was eventually canceled. While the MMORPG doesn’t receive as much new content compared to Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix still has a dedicated team ensuring the continuity of its first MMORPG set in the Final Fantasy universe. However, given the game’s online nature, the company must adjust some features to address the declining player base and how they tackle some party-based content.

MMORPGs are traditionally multiplayer-only experiences, but these MMOs are designed to cater specifically to solo players as well.

In November 2024, Square Enix conducted the Final Fantasy 11 Adventurer Survey to gauge both active and former players’ satisfaction levels and learn their expectations for Final Fantasy 11 in 2025. The survey gathered over 13,000 responses, divided between users in Japan and overseas. When asked about their satisfaction with the game, most respondents said they were satisfied, while those who expressed dissatisfaction cited the lack of solo play options. On the game’s official website, Director Yoji Fujito stated that Final Fantasy 11 will become more accessible for solo players in 2025.

Final Fantasy 11 WIll Add More Solo Content in 2025

Fujito explained that the development team reached this decision after reviewing player feedback from the survey. When users were asked what they’d like to see in future updates, many said in the comments sections that they wanted new types of content that could be played solo or with smaller parties. Final Fantasy 11 previously introduced the Trust Magic system, allowing players to employ NPC alter egos in their party, similar to the Duty Support system in Final Fantasy 14. However, some content still cannot be completed with these NPCs.

To this day, Final Fantasy 11 lacks an automated party formation system. Players who wish to team up with others must manually search and organize parties through chat. The director mentioned that in 2025, the team plans to improve the auto-grouping function, focusing on adventurers looking to complete the same content at any given time. Auto-partying has become an expected feature and is particularly crucial for newcomers to MMORPGs, who often prefer letting the system create a party for them instead of searching manually. Other updates planned for Final Fantasy 11 in 2025 include revitalizing existing content and character leveling adjustments.
