You Can Change Your Game’s Difficulty Mid-Story

At the start of your first Fairy Tail 2 game file, you’ll be prompted to choose a difficulty level. Each mode tailors the gameplay experience to different preferences:

  • Story: Perfect for those who want a relaxed experience and focus on the narrative. Battles are simplified and require minimal strategy.
  • Balanced: Offers a moderate challenge with slightly tougher battles, ideal for players seeking a mix of story and gameplay.
  • Hard: Designed for those who enjoy strategic battles and technique-heavy gameplay, requiring more skill to progress.
  • Ragnarok: The ultimate challenge, featuring the most punishing battles for experienced players who crave difficulty.

If you ever feel like the difficulty isn’t right, whether you want to amp up the challenge or make progress on a tough boss, you can adjust it mid-game. Simply open the Settings menu from the Main Menu, navigate to Options and then Game Settings, and select a new difficulty level that better suits your playstyle.

8

Use Multiple Characters In Photo Mode

Fairy Tail 2 offers a fun and detailed Photo Mode, allowing you to capture Instagram-worthy screenshots of your characters, enemies, and monsters. After encountering a character in the game, they become available in this mode, letting you choose up to 11 characters to feature in your shots.

Make sure to exit the character selection tool before adjusting the zoom, or you may accidentally adjust the character’s y-axis instead.

Customization options let you adjust poses for each character, giving you the freedom to create dynamic and artistic images. For some characters, especially playable ones and key story figures like Sting and Rogue, you can even modify their outfits (if unlocked) and expressions to further personalize your photos.

However, there are some exceptions to the customization options. Exceed, Makarov, and Aquarius are among the characters whose outfits and expressions cannot be altered in Photo Mode.

7

Understanding Area Of Effects

Fairy Tail 2 introduces a unique and strategic approach to area-of-effect (AOE) attacks. Each character’s AOE spells are tailored to their abilities, and understanding how these spells work is crucial for mastering battles. You can view the specifications for each skill by navigating to the Character Menu, selecting Skill Equip, and choosing a skill. A drop-down menu will display the spell’s details, including its AOE type and other specifications.

The Strongest Anime Transformations Of All Time, Officially Ranked

Some anime transformations are beyond strong — these ones go above and beyond.

When selecting an attack in battle, each one is clearly labeled as either a Single-Target or AOE Attack, providing helpful guidance during combat.

The game features four distinct AOE types:

  • Single: These spells target a single enemy. While they have limited reach, they compensate with higher damage, making them effective at taking down powerful foes quickly.
  • Circular: Spells with a circular AOE, like Lucy’s Fleuve d’Étoiles whip attack, strike enemies in a radius around the caster. They are effective for clearing enemies directly in front and to the sides but may miss those positioned on the wings or in the back.
  • Vertical: Vertical AOE are skills with a cylindrical shape, such as Dragon Slayer roar attacks, targeting enemies in a lane extending directly ahead of the caster. These spells excel at hitting enemies positioned in the back ranks of an enemy formation.
  • All: Spells with an All AOE affect every enemy on the field, making them perfect for situations where multiple enemies need to be cleared at once.

Mastering the mechanics and strategic applications of these AOE types will significantly enhance your efficiency in battles, enabling you to adapt your approach to different enemy formations and challenges.

6

One-Hit KO Enemies In The Overworld

As you progress through each region in Fiore, the monsters will grow stronger. However, once you reach a certain Origin Level, weaker monsters will recognize your strength and flee upon spotting you, except for those summoned by Magic Pools.

Attack strong monsters before engaging in battle, too, to receive an advantage in battle.

At this point, you have two options: let the monsters escape or rush forward and attack them directly on the field. Doing so will instantly defeat them, granting you their loot drops without entering a battle sequence. This method is an efficient way to farm Origin Points, especially when preparing for challenging boss encounters.

5

Prioritize Challenging King Monsters

Each region in Fiore features its own unique King Monster, serving as optional boss battles that are significantly stronger than the surrounding enemies. In addition to providing valuable loot upon defeat, conquering each King Monster unlocks Plue and Rock locations on the region’s map. These points are essential for efficiently farming materials needed to unlock powerful techniques and buffs for your party.

Build Your Team For More Than Just Strength

Every playable character brings their own strengths and abilities to the table, but raw power varies among them. However, this does not make them any less important when crafting a well-rounded strategy, since support and tank characters play a critical role in ensuring your DPS units can operate at peak efficiency.

  • Defense: When it comes to defense, Gajeel stands head and shoulders above the rest, closely followed by Gray (excluding Gildarts, as he becomes fully playable only in post-game content). At max level, Gajeel boasts an impressive defense stat of 2206, with Gray trailing at 1958. To maximize their effectiveness as tanks, equip them with DEF Lacrima to boost their defense further, and Visibility Lacrima, which increases the chances of enemies targeting them. This setup minimizes the damage inflicted on the rest of your party, giving your DPS characters more freedom to focus on offense.
  • Healing and Support: Wendy is your primary healer and support character, although Juvia also offers some solid healing spells. While Wendy may have the weakest strength stats in the game, her team buffs and recovery skills are unmatched, making her an invaluable part of any team.

Wendy’s AI tends to prioritize her attack skills over healing and recovery. If you need timely heals, it’s best to control her manually.

  • Passive Skills: Progressing through the Origin Tree unlocks more than just powerful attacks and stat buffs—it also activates passive abilities that benefit your entire party when the character is on the battlefield. Each character has a unique set of passives, but none are as crucial as their Essence, a specialized buff exclusive to them. Prioritizing the unlocking and leveling of Essence skills for your main team can provide significant advantages, particularly in challenging battles. These passive boosts often make the difference between victory and defeat when the stakes are high.

Building a team with complementary skills and utilizing characters’ strengths effectively will give you the upper hand as you tackle even the toughest challenges Fairy Tail 2 throws at you.

3

Start Unlocking Locations Early

In Fairy Tail 2, quests will take you across the vast regions of Fiore. Once fast-travel is unlocked, you can teleport to key points such as the Fairy Tail Guild, Camp Fires, and Locations, making travel much easier. Most quest objectives will conveniently be located near these waypoints.

2

Use Check Terminology To Keep Up With The Lore

Fairy Tail is a sprawling series with 63 manga volumes and 328 anime episodes, weaving an interconnected story of arcs and characters. The developers of Fairy Tail 2 embraced this extensive lore, incorporating numerous references and details from across the series. However, they also acknowledge that not every player will be intimately familiar with the source material.

To help bridge the gap, the game highlights lore-heavy terms in yellow during in-game dialogue. When you encounter one of these terms, press down to view an explanation. You can also dive deeper into the series’ history and lore by accessing the Database in the main menu.

1

Pre-Plan Your Combos

After accumulating enough SP, you can execute special attacks, which can be chained into powerful combos. While a character is performing their special attack, you can stack subsequent moves, queuing up the next action in advance. This process can continue until your SP is depleted. If you haven’t exhausted your regular attacks, you can seamlessly transition into them after completing your special skills, maximizing your damage output.

This combo mechanic also applies to Unison Raids, which are devastating team-based attacks. During a Unison Raid, you can pre-select the follow-up attack your character will perform once the raid concludes, allowing you to chain the momentum of the Unison Raid into additional devastating strikes. Properly leveraging this system is key to dominating tough battles and optimizing your team’s synergy.
