Wuthering Waves 2.0 is here, and it’s a great time to jump in and try one of Genshin Impact’s toughest competitors, whether you missed the launch of the free PC game or have been playing since day one. With free pulls and Astrite up for grabs, and the ability to fast-track to the new region of Rinascita if you want to catch up to the conversation, there re lots of reasons to dive in and see why it’s become one of the strongest rivals to HoYoverse’s anime gacha game, even as challengers such as Ananta and Arknights Endfield come over the horizon in 2025.
Wuthering Waves has all the gorgeous designs and open-world exploration to match the likes of giants such as Genshin Impact, but developer Kuro Games places more of a focus onto challenging battle systems. Its inspirations range from Dark Souls to Devil May Cry, presenting combat that allows you to overcome even particularly dangerous, high-level foes if you’re good enough. Wuthering Waves 2.0 arrives today, and with it comes all the trappings of the best gacha games – meaning a wealth of new events, item giveaways, and more.
The new Wuthering Waves update is ‘All Silent Souls Can Sing’ and it whisks us away to the land of Rinascita, an enchanted zone comprising several independent city states. Two new Resonators join the cast, and they’re primed to rank highly on the Wuthering Waves tier list. Carlotta is a Glacio-aligned damage dealer, while Roccia is a Havoc specialist who excels in ramping up your Concerto energy and amplifying damage for your team. Each also has companion stories, and can be paired with signature weapons to further enhance their potential.
Jumping into a new gacha can be scary – especially if you missed the boat at launch – but now is the moment to see what WuWa has to offer. Among the numerous events rolling out across the launch of 2.0 are plenty of ways to grab free currency and character upgrade materials, and you can even get some free pulls for the new Wuthering Waves banners. The Gift of Joyous Tunes event gives you five Radiant Tides to use on the limited banners, and five Lustrous Tides for the permanent banner, Tidal Chorus.
On top of this, the Gratitude for Companionship offers 1,600 Astrite, the primary premium currency in Wuthering Waves, and existing players will also get a further 600 Astrite in their mail alongside the update. If you’re worried it’ll take too long to catch up to the current content, don’t fear, as Kuro Games has a special fast-track feature. As soon as you reach Union level 14 and complete chapter one, act three of the main quest, you can accept a special ‘Next Stop: Rinascita’ mission to leap ahead to the chapter two prologue.
There’s even more to look forward to in Wuthering Waves 2.0, whether you’re an existing player or a newcomer. Synthesis can be performed on the go, and a limited-time early access feature allows you to grab certain challenge materials ahead of when you would normally unlock them in the story mode (although be warned of potential spoilers if you chose to do so). You can also unlock new outfits for your characters, visual effects will now display when they’re injured in battle, and you can switch between the two Rovers once per day.
