In Stardew Valley, there are a number of couples among Pelican Town’s NPCs, including Robin and Demetrius, Kent and Jodi, and unknown to many of the game’s villagers, Lewis and Marnie. There are several moments that can play out in the game that hint at their hidden relationship, including the story around the notorious Stardew Valley lucky purple shorts. Building up a relationship with both the Mayor and Marnie can lead to some more insight in their relationship, but this cutscene landed at the worst time.

Stardew Valley Gaming Session Interrupted By Real-Life Bear

One Stardew Valley player gets quite the startle when a real-life bear decides to interrupt their peaceful time playing the game.

Stardew Valley player EnbyGoblinMoss shared that they got a cutscene involving Lewis convincing Marnie to continue keeping their relationship hidden from the town. The cutscene happens when a player gets both Lewis and Marnie to six hearts, and it allows the player to listen in on a conversation where Marnie wants to no longer hide their relationship, and Lewis is insisting upon it. The cutscene can trigger any time that the heart requirements are met, and for this particular fan, it landed on Marnie’s birthday of all possible days.

Stardew Valley Players Think Marnie Can Do Better

Many fans cringed alongside EnbyGoblinMoss at the timing of this cutscene. The cutscene doesn’t have any real impact on the game’s story outside of the player gaining or losing relationship points with Lewis, depending on whether they promise to keep the overheard secret or blab it to everyone. However, many also took the opportunity to point out that Marnie should give up on Lewis and move on to someone else, like Marlon or even Gus. Many players seem to have a distaste for Lewis and some of his questionable choices in Stardew Valley, and keeping his relationship with her under the radar seems to add to that.

There are a number of interpersonal conflicts in the game that go unresolved, like the rough relationship between Sebastian and Demetrius, Clint having an unrequited (and largely unspoken) crush on Emily, and so on. If Stardew Valley receives another major content update, some fans might like to see an opportunity for Marnie to split with Lewis, or at least for Lewis to finally admit he’s in a relationship with her. However, given years have passed without any resolution to these concerns, it’s likely that developer ConcernedApe wants there to be a little strain between some characters, as it makes things more realistic.
