Space Marine 2 continued the trend of glorious Warhammer 40k games in 2024 and, as the new year rolls over, developer Saber Interactive already has lots on the cards. A blog post celebrating the arrival of 2025 reveals what the studio is prioritizing as the year kicks off, with more multiplayer modes and a new champion from an iconic founding Chapter of the Space Marines. You’ll also be given the opportunity to represent other Chapters through a range of additional customization elements.
We’ve been on a strong trend of the best Warhammer 40k games in the past few years, and Space Marine 2 is no slouch there either. It’s proven a huge winner on Steam, and there’s still lots more to come. “We first and foremost want to assure you that 2025 will be just as epic as 2024,” Saber writes in a new blog. At the top of the list are plenty of community events – right now, a Decimation event is running that awards a Mark XI Hell’s Teeth skin for your Chainsword if you rack up ten wins in Operations by Monday January 20, and more are set to follow in its wake.
The biggest reveal is that of our next champion, which will be a sniper from the Salamanders, one of the first founding Chapters of the Space Marines. Saber notes that while the Raven Guard were “an obvious choice” for a sniper champion, the team has “different plans for them.” It was eager to see the Salamanders represented, and with heavies already boasting a champion and another idea on the cards for the tactical class, the faction has slotted nicely into the sniper role and should offer us some excellent Space Marine 2 builds.
Saber also promises more for PvP players to get stuck into: “We have heard you, and we know you feel left out.” That starts with a new PvP map set in “a closed environment with many narrow passages” to force more close-quarters engagements. Patch 7.0 will bring custom PvP lobbies to Space Marine 2, with the ability to set player count, timer limit, score, modifiers, and even team class compositions.
Of course, the long-awaited horde mode is still on the cards, although Saber says it “will arrive later in 2025,” so don’t hold your breath for now. You can look forward to the introduction of more Operations and enemy types throughout the year, however, along with a fresh difficulty level offering new rewards. Season 3 will also add Prestige rank, which will give you the ability to upgrade your classes further than ever before.
The Battle Barge will have a Datavault added to it – head there and you’ll be able to peruse “unlockable information on most elements and enemies from the game,” which are unlocked using currency earned from in-game achievements. “We’ll get back to you quickly in the beginning of 2025,” Saber assures, suggesting that we could see this one fairly soon.
