Should you go for Mavuika or Citlali

Genshin Impact 5.3 version update phase 1 banners, Genshin Impact 5.3 version update

  • Mavuika is a Pyro DPS/Sub-DPS who uses Fighting Spirit instead of Energy, excelling in Melt/Vape teams
  • Citlali is a Cryo shielder and support who provides shields, Pyro/Hydro resistance shred, and offensive buffs
  • Mavuika thrives with Citlali as her Cryo enabler but Citlali can be used in many teams without Mavuika

Genshin Impact Version 5.3 Phase 1 banners will go live from the 1st of January, 2025 after maintenance till the 21st of January, 2025. The Version 5.3 Phase 1 banners will feature two new limited 5-Star characters with a dual banner.

Genshin Impact Version 5.3 Phase 1 First character banner: Ancient Flame Ablaze

  • Mavuika (5* Pyro/Claymore)
  • Bennett (4* Pyro/Sword)
  • Diona (4* Cryo/Bow)
  • Kachina (4* Geo/Polearm)

Mavuika is a Pyro DPS who introduces a unique mechanic with her Fighting Spirit, which replaces traditional Energy for her Burst. She excels at dealing high damage per rotation, making her a strong carry for single-rotation teams. Her potential shines brightest in optimized teams that include Natlan supports, such as Xilonen and Citlali, where she can make excellent use of Melt or Vaporize reactions to amplify her damage.

However, Mavuika‘s reliance on Natlan characters is also her biggest weakness. Without Xilonen or Citlali, her performance drops significantly, as she struggles to generate sufficient Fighting Spirit for consistent bursts. This reliance makes her less flexible and more difficult to integrate into a general roster. While she can still work outside of optimized setups, her performance might feel underwhelming.

Genshin Impact Version 5.3 Phase 1 Second character banner: Starry Night’s Whispers

Citlali, on the other hand, is a Cryo shielder and support who brings exceptional utility to the table. She combines defensive capabilities with offensive buffs, making her an excellent enabler for teams. Her shield protects your character, while her support build, like 40% damage from Scrolls of Cinder City, 48% ATK from Thrilling Tales, and Pyro/Hydro shred from her Ascension passive, make her invaluable for Melt teams.

Citlali‘s versatility is one of her biggest strengths. Unlike Mavuika, she doesn’t require specific characters to unlock her potential, and she fits seamlessly into a variety of team comps. Her ability to enable Melt teams more consistently makes her a game-changer for those setups. Even in teams where her synergy isn’t perfect, Citlali provides enough buffs and defensive utility to justify her spot.

Genshin Impact Version 5.3 Phase 1 Weapon banner: Epitome Invocation

  • A Thousand Blazing Suns (Claymore)
  • Starcaller’s Watch (Catalyst)
  • Lithic Blade (Claymore)
  • Sacrificial Sword (Sword)
  • Favonius Lance (Polearm)

  • The Stringless (Bow)

Why you should go for Mavuika or Citlali in Genshin Impact Version 5.3

If you’re a fan of Pyro DPS characters or have Chilonin and other Natlan supports ready to go, Mavuika is a fantastic option. Her high damage potential can be very satisfying, but it’s important to note that she is team-reliant. Without the right support, her performance can feel lackluster, so she’s best suited for players who have built their roster with her in mind.

On the other hand, Citlali is a safer pick if you want a versatile character who can provide utility across multiple teams. Her ability to enable Melt teams, offer strong defensive utility, and support a wide variety of comps makes her incredibly valuable. She’s less restrictive than Mavuika, and her impact will be noticeable even on less optimized accounts.

If I had to choose, I’d personally lean toward Citlali. Her flexibility and utility make her a great addition to almost any roster, and she opens up exciting new options for Melt teams. That said, if you’re passionate about Mavuika’s design or playstyle and have the support to back her up, she’s worth considering.
