Summary
- PS Plus Classics developer Implicit Conversions is interested in making a PS3 emulator.
- There are a lot of classics that can’t be played natively on modern hardware, from Infamous to Killzone 2, so this would be a huge step forward for backward compatibility.
- Sony is also rumoured to be working on PS3 emulation, but there has been no official announcement yet.
Implicit Conversions, a developer that brings classic games to modern platforms like the PS5, has added an interesting new detail to its roadmap.
As pointed out by Reddit user beeperbeeper5, it lists PS3 emulation under the “Dreaming about” tab. Specifically, “Researching and prototyping the possibility of a PlayStation 3 emulator package”.

The Steam Winter Sale Has Some Unbelievable Deals This Year
This might be the best Steam sale in years.
This isn’t confirmation of anything, but it at least shows that the developer who brought games like Fear Effect, The Legend of Dragoon, and several iconic Star Wars classics to current-gen (as reported by Time Extension) is interested in doing the same for the PS3 generation.
There are a lot of brilliant games that can only be played if you have the original console and disc, or via streaming, whether that’s the Killzone trilogy, Demon’s Souls, Infamous, or the many Ratchet & Clank sequels. Such a dream could finally make them accessible to a new generation of gamers.
Sony Has Been Working On PS3 Emulation Already, According To Earlier Reports
Interestingly, this might not be such a far-fetched idea. Industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed last year that Sony had been working on PS3 emulation for “quite some time”. When he made this claim back in June, he thought that Sony would have already announced it by then. However, just over six months later, nothing has been revealed.
Perhaps that will change in 2025. For now, Sony has been ramping up its ports of iconic PS1, PS2, and PSP games, from Sly Cooper to Daxter and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. The Sly games are even among the highest-rated games on the PS Store. There’s clearly a hunger for more classic games to return, and the PS3 is full of them.
