A Pokemon Trading Card Game fan has shared a fantastic surprise with the community, showcasing the rare cards they pulled from the last Scarlet and Violet 151 box found in Target. Alongside the Pokemon TCG, the IP is jostling with current and upcoming games from Nintendo for the Switch console, and the popular anime is still going in Pokemon Horizons: The Series, with season 2 due to arrive in February 2025.
The Pokemon TCG released eight expansions between 1998 and 2003 under Magic: The Gathering producer Wizards of the Coast, before the license was transferred to The Pokemon Company. For trainers wanting to save money and space, the new mobile game Pokemon TCG: Pocket was released in October 2024 to much acclaim. Nintendo recently updated Pokemon TCG: Pocket’s Premium Pass benefits to help trainers combat the January blues, by adding new promo cards including Moltres ex, and allowing players to purchase Charizard-themed items using premium tickets.

The fan explained that a Target employee had found the last Scarlet and Violet 151 box in the back stock. Since Pokemon cards are an expensive hobby, it’s fairly common for fans to take a break from collecting, but the hobby seems to have a special way of welcoming trainers back to the grind, just like one player scored big after taking a 20-year hiatus from Pokemon cards. The Blastoise ex card is worth approximately $70 ungraded, with the Charmeleon card worth around $30, and both cards are worth over $200 in mint condition. A similar experience happened to another Pokemon TCG fan who found the last 151 Alakazam box in a nearby store, proving hidden stock may conceal lucky charms for trainers.
Blastoise and Charmeleon belong to two of the original Kanto starter evolutions, and since the water turtle remains a popular pocket monster in 2025, Blastoise will receive a limited-time drop event in Pokemon TCG: Pocket.
