New AMD Radeon RX 9000 GPU Release Plans Leaked

Summary

  • Rumors suggest the AMD Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs may be released over multiple months, and the Radeon RX 9070 XT could be the first new card from AMD this year.
  • AMD could announce the new Radeon cards at CES 2025, starting January 6.
  • Add-in board partner cards may not be ready until February or March due to uncertainty regarding release timing in China.

According to sources, the AMD Radeon RX 9000 series of graphics cards may have a staggered release between January and March, starting with the flagship Radeon RX 9070 XT model. AMD is expected to fully reveal its next generation of graphics cards at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 6.

The latest rumors came amid a busy time within the PC parts market. In November, AMD released the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which utilizes AMD’s second generation of 3D V-Cache technology to improve gaming performance in various CPU-heavy titles such as Cyberpunk 2077. Along with the expectations that AMD and Nvidia will announce new GPUs at CES, Intel released its Battlemage graphics card generation, starting with the Arc B580 at $249. With a focus on 1080p and 1440p gaming, the Arc B580 is competing with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4060 and AMD’s Radeon RX 7600 on the budget side of the GPU market.

It Sounds Like the PS6 Will Use AMD Tech

Sony announces a new AMD partnership targeting two ambitious goals, with the collaboration indicating the PS6 will feature AMD tech.

While all rumors must be taken with a fine grain of salt, a source claimed that AMD may focus on the mid-range side of the GPU market. According to a post on the Chinese forum site called Board Channel (translated by VideoCardz), a user named Expert No.1 stated that, while AMD will announce the Radeon RX 9000 series at CES 2025 on January 6, the Radeon RX 9070 XT could have a staggered release slate. While AMD will likely release its version of the Radeon RX 9070 XT in January, Expert No.1 claims that GPUs from add-in board (AIB) partners may not release their models until later, due to uncertainties over AMD’s sales timing of the Radeon RX 9000 series in China. However, Expert No.1 said that AMD’s board partners are still expected to ship some versions of the Radeon RX 9070 XT in February after the Chinese New Year, which begins on January 29.

AMD May Stagger the Release of Radeon RX 9000 GPUs

Additionally, Expert No.1 claimed that other mainstream models of the Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs will start hitting store shelves in March, though it remains unclear what those models are. However, the entire Radeon RX 9000 series lineup is expected to include technologies such as FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR4), which may utilize AI-based upscaling and frame generation similar to Nvidia’s Deep-Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). How FSR4 will perform compared to DLSS remains to be seen.

With the Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs and potentially more Ryzen 9000 CPUs on the way, AMD is looking to start 2025 on the right foot. Only time will tell how the Radeon RX 9070 XT and other AMD GPUs will entice buyers.
