Earlier this week, Marvel Rivals players discovered an issue in which certain characters faced significant nerfs if they were playing with lower frame rates. It was a controversial issue, with players upset that they were at a disadvantage for simply playing on older hardware.

The noise online spiraled, and the issue became so large that NetEase has acknowledged the disadvantages, vowing to fix them in a future update.
Five characters reportedly faced major nerfs when played at a lower frame rate.
Doctor Strange, Magik, and Venom all had their movement impacted in different ways, while Star-Lord and Wolverine’s attacks were weakened when played at a lower frame rate. Thankfully, fixes will be coming soon.
In a post in the official Marvel Rivals Discord regarding the character movement issues, NetEase said:
“Some heroes are currently experiencing movement problems related to frame rates. This is something we’re aware of, and our upcoming S1 version will address and fix these issues.”
It also addressed the damage output issue, which will seemingly be harder to fix. It said:
“A small number of heroes do have damage-related issues related to frame rates as well. After using ‘Feral Leap’ (Shift), Wolverine’s ‘Savage Claw’ (left-click) is notably affected by frame rate issues—especially in tests against stationary targets. However, in actual gameplay, the difference might not be very noticeable.”
NetEase blamed the issue on the game’s “client-side prediction mechanism” and suggested it may be a more difficult fix. “We’re actively working on finding a comprehensive solution that fixes these issues without compromising the smoothness of the game. This will take some time, but rest assured, we are committed to addressing it, and you can expect a fix in a future patch,” it said.
In an interview with TheGamer at Tokyo Game Show earlier this year, the Marvel Rivals team detailed how important balancing the game was for them, so they’re likely to be disappointed this issue has arisen, and it’s going to be one of the key reasons it is working so hard to fix it.
