How To Reroll Items And Gear In Path Of Exile 2 Using The Reforging Bench

The Reforging Bench is a multipurpose tool in Path of Exile 2 that allows you to combine similar items to either reroll or upgrade them. This replaces the three-to-one vendor recipe from the original Path of Exile. However, the Reforging Bench is not available from the beginning. You must progress through the Campaign until Act 3, where you will need to defeat an optional boss to unlock it.

Once available, you will be able to use it to reroll consumables, items, and even upgrade items like Waystones, Distilled Emotions, etc. We recommend unlocking it as soon as possible since it is immensely helpful, especially if you are playing Solo Self-Found.

How To Unlock The Reforging Bench

The location of Metkul, the Forgemaster in The Molten Vault somewhere in The Drowning City in Path of Exile 2.

You will unlock the Reforging Bench after completing Treasures of Utzaal in The Drowned City during Act 3. Once there, search the area to find The Molten Vault. Your objective is to kill Mektul, the Forgemaster. We recommend capped Fire Resistance, around 1,500 HP, and other defensive layers, like Evasion — especially in Hardcore.

It is a fairly straightforward encounter. However, do note that it is on a fourminute timer. This is why it is crucial to have enough DPS to burst him down. Remember not to chase him into the lava since it will most likely one-shot you. Continue to dodge the orbs until he jumps out before dealing damage. Crowd control, such as Freeze, Shock, etc. is excellent against him. If you are struggling as a melee character, make sure to add some CC to your build.

After being killed, he will drop The Hammer of Kamasa
. You need to bring it to Oswald in The Ziggurat Encampment to get the Reforging Bench, a bit of Gold, and an Uncut Skill Gem. Once unlocked, you will have access to it in every town as well as your hideout.

How To Use The Reforging Bench

An overview of the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2 that lets you three-to-one different items in Path of Exile 2.

There is no longer a threetoone vendor recipe in Path of Exile 2. This feature has been replaced by the Reforging Bench. It basically lets you combine three items to create a new one with random stats. There are, however, some limitations that you need to keep in mind:

  1. The items must have the same rarity.
  2. The items must be of the same type. For instance, you cannot reforge two Bombard Crossbows with an Advanced Bombard Crossbow.
  3. The items must be Uncorrupted.

Because there are no Orbs of Alterations in the Early Access, rolling Flasks can be a bit challenging. This is where the Reforging Bench comes in. You can always save your poorly rolled Flasks, gear, etc. in a separate tab, and reforge them once you have three of the same item type.

The reforged item will always have the Item Level of the lowestlevel item that you put in the Reforging Bench.

Since some highertier mods can only roll on specific Item Level items, we do not recommend having a massive itemlevel difference.

There are some more uses of the Reforging Bench, which we have explained in the following sections:

Rerolling Essences

A look at the Essence tab in Path of Exile 2. You can combine three similar Essences to get a random one.

There is no option to upgrade your Essences in Path of Exile 2. If you combine three similar Essences in the Reforging Bench, you will get a random Essence — it could be the same one. You may also reforge it into a Greater Essence, but the odds of doing so are less than one percent.

Rerolling Catalysts

The player looking at one of the Catalyst in Path of Exile 2 that they can use on the Jewelry to increase the Attribute modifiers in Path of Exile 2.

You can also reforge three similar Catalysts to get a random one. This can be helpful for SSF players if they have an abundance of one type of Catalyst.

Rerolling Precursor Tablets

An overview of a Magic-rarity Precursor Tablet in Path of Exile 2 that you can reroll using the Reforging Bench.

This is another thing that SSF players can take advantage of. Simply reforge three of your surplus Precursor Tablets to get a random one. It is completely RNGbased, but you can always hit something nice. The endgame in Path of Exile 2 is all about optimizing your farming strategies, and it is very important to have good Precursor Tablets. Also, remember that all the Precursor Tablets must have Magic rarity in order to get reforged.

Rerolling Relics

An unidentified Seal Relic obtained by reforging three Sealed Relics in the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2.

You can also combine three identical Relics to get a new one with rerolled values. This can be very useful if you have low-rolls on some valuable Relics. Some of these Relics are worth quite a lot on Trade. Even if you are not interested in selling them, having a decentlyrolled Relic can make all the difference in failing or completing a Trial of Ascendancy, which is a massive power spike going into the endgame.

Rerolling Runes

Obtaining a Mind Rune by reforging three similar Runes at the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2.

Runes are items that you can slot into your gear for various effects, like Max HP, Elemental Resistances, etc. If you are looking for a specific Rune, you can reforge three identical Runes for a chance to get the one you need.

Upgrading Distilled Emotions

The player upgrading three similar Distilled Emotions at the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2.

These are consumables that you can use to anoint your Amulets, Waystones, etc. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions, and each one has a different use. Unlike other items, reforging three identical Distilled Emotions will yield one with a higher tier. Here is a complete list of all the Distilled Emotions:

  1. Distilled Despair
  2. Distilled Disgust
  3. Distilled Greed
  4. Distilled Guilt
  5. Distilled Ire
  6. Distilled Paranoia
  7. Distilled Suffering
  8. Distilled Envy
  9. Distilled Fear
  10. Distilled Isolation

For example, if you combine three Distilled Suffering, you will get a Distilled Isolation.

Upgrading Waystones

Upgrading three Tier-1 Waystones to get a Tier-2 Waystone from the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2.

Sustaining maps in the endgame can be a hitormiss for a lot of players. With the Reforging Bench, you should be able to combine three Waystones of the same tier to get a Waystone that is one tier higher. However, these must be nonCorrupted and of the same rarity.

This is very helpful when it comes to completing your Atlas in the endgame. Without a highertier Waystone, you may find your progress coming to a halt.

Rerolling Affixes On Uniques

An overview of the Unique Tab in Path of Exile 2. You can reroll the values on a Unique Item using the Reforging Bench.

You can combine three similar Uniques in the Reforging Bench to get an unidentified version of the same Unique. The reforged item can have different affix values. This is kind of like using a Divine Orb
on a Unique, but much cheaper. For instance, Ventor’s Gamble
is a very good Unique to reforge if you need good rolls that go for a lot in the Trade League.

Rerolling Soul Cores

An attribute-based Soul Core that cannot be reforged using the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2. This is possibly due to a bug.

Lastly, we have got Soul Cores. Similar to other items, you can combine three similar Soul Cores to get a new one. Due to Magic Find, the rarity Soul Cores are extremely expensive in the Trade League. If you are lucky, you can make quite a few Divine Orb
by rerolling cheaper Soul Cores into the more expensive ones, like the Soul Core of Azcapa
.

At the time of writing this guide, Attributebased Soul Cores, such as Soul Core of Cholotl, Soul Core of Zantipi, and Soul Core of Atmohua could not be rerolled using the Reforging Bench. It may be a bug, but we are not sure. GGG has yet to comment on it.
