The world of assassins is often complex in any media, and anime is no different. Whether they are yakuza members, fantasy rouges, or any other kind of deadly hitmen, anime has always explored complex setups for these assassins, both in groups and solo ventures. Two main organizations rule over the assassins when it comes to the Sakamoto Days universe; the JAA, and X’s organization. These two powerful forces in the assassin world are often at odds with each other, causing problems for our main cast of characters to get tangled up in.
However, within the JAA, there is an internal organization often regarded as an urban legend known as The Order. As the series continues, we learn they are not an urban legend but an elite force of hitmen who keep balance within the world the assassins hide in. The JAA operates with a strict code of conduct, ensuring a degree of structure and regulation in an otherwise chaotic field of work, all of which we will go over today.

What Is The Order?
An Elite Taskforce Unlike Any Other
The Order is associated with the JAA and is considered its most elite branch. It was formed to handle high-priority tasks, maintain balance in the assassin world, and uphold the JAA’s rules. The group represents the pinnacle of assassination talent, and only the strongest and most skilled assassins are recruited into its ranks. The Order operates with strict discipline and loyalty to the JAA. Its members often possess distinctive fighting styles and weapons, setting them apart from other assassins. There is a rigorous selection process that ensures that only the most capable individuals become part of The Order, cementing their status as an elite force to be wreckoned with.
Because of this, The Order wields tremendous power within the assassin world. Their influence extends to enforcing the JAA’s rules, dealing with rogue assassins, and executing high-profile contracts. Each member is individually formidable, and their combined strength makes them nearly unstoppable. While members occasionally clash due to differing philosophies or personalities, members who remain in The Order are able to work past and with those differences to keep the world of assassins in balance. Their strict adherence to the JAA’s rules, however, can sometimes limit their flexibility in moments of crisis when flexibility is necessary.
What Is The Backstory Of The Order?
How Was The Order Formed, And Why Is The Order The Way They Are?
The Order was founded by two formidable assassins, Kindaka and Satoru Yotsumura. Kindaka, known for his exceptional speed and combat skills, played a pivotal role in recruiting talented individuals into The Order. He often evaluated promising assassins for potential recruitment, extending invitations to those who met his rigorous standards. Notably, he approached Taro Sakamoto, Nagumo, Rion Akao, and Kei Uzuki, recognizing their potential to strengthen the organization. Yotsumura, co-founder alongside Kindaka, was instrumental in shaping The Order’s early operations. His mentorship of Shishiba, a future member of The Order, indicates his influence in training and guiding new recruits. Initially, The Order comprised only four members.
This small, elite team was tasked with high-stakes missions, such as protecting the JAA chairman’s family during critical times. Kindaka’s commitment to the organization’s cause was evident when he sustained severe injuries while safeguarding the chairman’s wife and child, leading to an eight-year coma. Over time, The Order expanded its ranks by recruiting exceptional assassins who demonstrated unparalleled skill and loyalty to the JAA’s principles, however they lost various Order members over time as well. Some of the members that joined later include Shishiba, Takamura, and Kamihate, who each brought unique abilities that enhanced the group’s effectiveness in maintaining order within the assassin community.
What Part Does The Order Play In The Sakamoto Days Franchise?
Why Is The Order Relevant, And Will We See Them In The Anime’s First Season?
Initially, the main part The Order plays in the Sakamoto Days franchise is one in the background. Taro Sakamoto, the protagonist of the series, was once a legendary assassin and a prominent member of The Order. His departure from the assassin world and The Order is a pivotal element of his character arc, so the Order serves as a reminder of his violent past and the life he left behind for the sake of his family. As Sakamoto attempts to live a peaceful life, The Order becomes a symbol of the assassin world he cannot fully escape. Members of The Order often clash with him, either due to their loyalty to the JAA or their personal motives.
“If I were the gods… I would have never created people like us.”
Nagumo, one of the original recruited member of The Order and current leader, also shares a complex relationship with Sakamoto. Nagumo and Sakamoto first met when they were both enrolled at the JCC, having known each other since they were 14. Nagumo cares deeply about Sakamoto, to the point of not wanting him to be in danger, even though he knows Sakamoto’s help is often necessary. Nagumo has repeatedly demonstrated his close friendship with Sakamoto, maintaining contact with him even after Sakamoto retired from being an assassin and became hunted by the JAA. While a somewhat bittersweet reminder of Taro Sakamoto’s past, Nagumo also proves to be an important character later on in the story.
There have been voice actor announcements for the 3 active order members. The previously mentioned Nagumo will be voiced by Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro in Demon Slayer). Shishiba, a formroe rouge assassin before being recruited into The Order, will be played by Taku Yashiro (Tsugaru Shinuchi in Undead Murder Farce). And last but not least, Osaragi is a new mysterious new member who joined The Order after Sakamoto left, and she’s played by Saori Hayami (Yor Forger in SPY X FAMILY). Using this information, plus knowing The Order’s first appearance is in the first arc, also known as the Amusement Park arc, we can accurately predict The Order is going to show up in the first season of the anime.
