Helldivers 2 Gets An Opening Sequence Like Arcane TV Show

Helldivers 2 is one of the most cinematic games you can play right now. The cinematic nature of the game skyrocketed with the Omens of Tyranny update. Watching an Illuminate Harvester emerge from the mist as you’re driving your FRV down the city streets, running over Voteless as shells rain down upon you is just sublime.

Helldivers 2 was once an uplifting and collaborative live-service gem, but since launch, the community has become a hotbed of outrage.

Hopefully, we’ll soon get to see the Illuminate in more diverse biomes as well – maybe something akin to a moon with a planet looming over it. However, until then, one fan has taken it upon themselves to make Helldivers more cinematic. Not by changing the game itself, but by giving it an opening sequence based on Netflix’s Arcane TV series.

Everybody Wants To Be Super Earth’s Enemy

The video, created by YouTuber Dedwood, already has over 25,000 views in two days. It uses the same title song as the intro for Arcane, Enemy by Imagine Dragons, as well as the same colour scheme and animation aesthetic. We can see Helldivers, along with Illuminate and Automaton units juxtaposed against each other.

There’s clearly a lot of thought put behind it by the creator, as many of the shots have some meaning behind them – most of all, the shot of two Helldivers standing back to back, with one of them turning into an Illuminate Voteless. As per the game’s lore, Voteless are Super Earth citizens that have been infected and turned by the Illuminate.

Even the opening credits have some fun nods to the game and community, with John Helldiver being credited as a producer, and Super Earth and the Ministry of Truth getting executive producer credits. The Calypso System, where the Illuminates first appeared, has got the casting credits, while Jane Helldiver has been credited as the writer. The final credit is a dedication to the Soldiers of Malevalon Creek.

The video features some great transitions as well, like the Helldiver holding a Super Earth flag turning into an Automaton. The last montage is my favourite, though, showing permutations of various Helldivers and enemies atop a huge pile of Helldiver helmets – that hit pretty hard.

The Galaxy’s Last Line of Offence. Enlist in the Helldivers and join the fight for freedom across a hostile galaxy in a fast, frantic, and ferocious third-person shooter. Helldivers 2 features Arrowhead’s best cooperative gameplay yet. Collaboration will be vital: Teams will synergize on loadouts, strategize their approach for each mission, and complete objectives together.
