Helldivers 2‘s creative director, Johan Pilestedt, has confirmed that planning and conceptualization on Arrowhead’s next game has already started.
Even though 2024 was relatively quiet compared to the gargantuan year that was 2023, it still had some massive surprises in store for gamers. One of the biggest was, without a doubt, Helldivers 2, which Arrowhead launched at the start of February and quickly saw become one of PlayStation’s biggest hits in years.

Arrowhead CCO Confirms The Studio’s Next Game Is Being Considered
While it’s still far too early to tell whether the team behind Helldivers 2 is ever going to leave it behind and halt development (something that seems unlikely considering recent comments about Helldivers 3), it does make sense that it’d eventually do something else. Even though its latest release is less than a year old, it seems that the team is already starting to plan its next moves out.
As pointed out by Insider Gaming, Helldivers 2 creative director and chief creative officer at Arrowhead Johan Pilestedt recently posted to Twitter his thoughts about 2025. While counting down the minutes until the new year began, Pilestedt asked fans what their expectations and desires are for the studio’s next game.
That might seem innocent enough, but Pilestedt quickly followed that up by saying that he’s already working on the “high concept” for the next title. This seems to suggest that, although work hasn’t officially begun on Arrowhead’s next game, it is in the phase where it starts considering what comes next for the team and preparing to pitch it to publishers.
With 10 minutes to 2025. What are your expectations and desires for what the next Arrowhead game will be? I am working on the high concept, but I would love to hear your speculation. – Johan Pilestedt
As of the time of writing, we have absolutely no idea what that high concept is, but fans have a few suggestions, ranging from a remake of Smash TV to a Star Fox game. Both of these were actually under consideration at one point for the studio, so it seems that it has quite a few ideas to be considering.
