Best Fire Pokemon In Mythical Island In Pokemon Pocket

Pokemon TCG Pocket has some burning hot options in the Mythical Island set. Fire has always been known for being one of the most aggressive types at the cost of losing some Energy along the way. Luckily, the payoff is often good if you know which Fire-type Pokemon to focus on.

Pokemon Pocket: 10 Best Cards From Mythical Island

You’ll want to get your hands on plenty of these cards, the best to come out of Pokemon Pocket’s Mystical Island expansion.

With previously released cards getting buffed counterparts and others providing ways to afflict your opponent’s side of the field with Status Effects, Fire is even more versatile than before. From Pokemon that can get a surprise damage buff to others that can hit the Bench with massive amounts of damage, here is every Fire Pokemon in Mythical Island ranked.

Magmar

A One Pump Chump

Magmar Mythical Island Pokemon TCG Pocket Card Art.

Blaine gets plenty of support in Mythical Island, with Pokemon that are compatible with the attack buff. Magmar gets a second variant in this set that tries to find a balance between being a Magmar and giving players a one-card investment toward Ninetails’ levels of attack power.

With 80 HP and a Retreat Cost of two, Magmar has the same durability and flexibility as the Genetic Apex version. However, it gets a massive power buff by being able to dish out 80 damage in one hit. This is even further buffed with Blaine letting it reach a 110 damage maximum when not taking Weakness into account. Where Magmar flops is with its two Energy discard upon using its Move, which makes it hard to consistently use every turn despite being able to get on the field faster. This is where Moltress will need to put in some leg work.

6

Salazzle

A Venomous Touch

Ironically enough, Salandit’s Evolution is the card that can apply the Poison Status Effect within the same line. Salazzle from Mythical Island has Poison Claws. This Move does 30 damage for one Energy which isn’t that impressive until you get to the secondary effect. It’s the Poison Status Effect that does the heavy lifting by making sure your opponent’s Pokemon keeps taking damage.

Ex Pokemon are some of the strongest in Pokemon Pocket, and these cards from Mythical Island are all quite good.

With an additional ten damage between turns, the numbers begin to rack up even after Salazzle is knocked out or needs to switch out. However, this is one Pokemon where its Pre-Evolution would synergize better if the Move effects were reversed. It is also one of the few Pokemon where the Pre-Evolution is fundamentally better.

5

Salandit

Better As A Basic Pokemon

Salandit and Salazzle are two very unique Pokemon in Pokemon TCG Pocket. The first in the line is Salandit, which gets a power boost if your opponent’s Pokemon is already Poisoned. This means that for one Energy, you can deal 50 damage using Venoshock. However, Salandit has no way to Poison other Pokemon by itself.

This means that it needs another Pokemon that can provide the Poison Status Effect before Salandit can start hitting at max power. Interestingly enough, Salandit does not require Fire Energy. So you can splash it into a Darkness deck where Weezing provides the Poison and Salandit can hit for ten more points than Farfetch’d. The real question is whether you want to Evolve it or not.

4

Larvesta

A Slow Starter

Larvesta Mythical Island Pokemon TCG Pocket Card Art.

Larvesta is a little bit slow as far as Basic Pokemon go. It takes two Energy just to do 30 damage but if you get lucky, you won’t need to bring it into the Active Spot till it is Evolved and ready to pull some major Moves on your opponent.

Larvesta also has 80 HP and a Retreat Cost of two. Luckily, cards like Leaf can help it get out of the way when it takes too much damage. While costs may be high, cards like Larvesta benefit most from other Pokemon like Moltres, providing Energy acceleration. This helps the card get online much faster even if what you really want is to Evolve it into its next Stage as fast as possible.

3

Volcarona

Win The Game By Hitting The Bench

Volcarona Mythical Island Pokemon TCG Pocket Card Art.

Volcarona is a secret weapon for Fire decks everywhere. This Pokemon does 80 damage to one of your opponent’s Pokemon, whether it’s on the Active Spot or safe on the Bench. This is the ultimate power move against Evolution decks with the only downside being that it cannot be consistently used one turn after the other due to the two Energy discard.

Luckily, if Volcarona was on the Bench the whole game, Moltres could allow it to reach the Energy gains it needs to use Volcanic Ash more than once in a row. With this Pokemon being able to hit the Bench, it can be an easy way to score points by sniping Basic Pokemon on the Bench or ex Pokemon that your opponent tries to Retreat once they get low enough on HP.

2

Ponyta

A Ponyta For Coin Flippers

Ponyta Mythical Island Pokemon TCG Pocket Card Art.

The Ponyta found in Mythical Island is a much better version of Ponyta because it has the chance to do 40 damage in one hit. It also keeps its stats as a 60 HP Basic Pokemon with a Retreat Cost of one. Stomp costs one Fire Energy and has a base damage of ten. This does ten less base damage than the Ponyta from Genetic Apex but gives you a chance to go fully aggressive very early on in the match.

Who needs to waste all your resources trying to pull top cards? These budget decks are competitively viable and cheap to make.

While Farfetch’d is the best one-Energy hitter, Ponyta manages to take advantage of Weaknesses to get ahead of the game. With Grass-types getting massive buffs in Mythical Island, it is good to have such an early-game hitter to make Fire decks more effective against some of the strongest decks in the game.

1

Rapidash

The Most Aggressive Rapidash

Rapidash Mythical Island Pokemon TCG Pocket Card Art.

Rapidash keeps many of the original stats found in Genetic Apex. The only difference is that Rising Lunge costs two Energy instead of just one. However, this extra Energy is worth investing in since Rising Lunge has a base damage of 40, but gives you the opportunity to deal 100 damage. This does require a bit of luck on your part, but since the original Rapidash could do 40 anyway, even the coin flip buff can be considered an improvement.

This card is also compatible with Blaine. So, just like the original Rapidash, it can dish out 70 damage while being buffed. If you manage to land the coin flip correctly, Rapidash can deal a whopping 130 damage in one hit. This makes it one of the most aggressive Fire Pokemon in the entire game.
