Below are several Manhwa heroes that are good, but somewhat creepy enough to make readers doubt their intentions, and sometimes their mental stability. From a gamer who gained near-unlimited power in a whoosh, to a quest system martial artist who displays an eerie expressionless behavior as he beats his foes.

Kartein (Or Karstein) is one of the most intriguing characters in Eleceed. He joined Kayden’s crew mid-way through the plot when his disciple was almost killed in combat. He restored Jiwoo’s health, and ever since he started caring for the boy as some sort of mentor/caretaker. Kartein will refuse to heal just anybody in the world, but he sticks around for Kayden and Jiwoo, though he doesn’t openly admit it.

The problem is, he also has a hidden side: alongside his healing powers of light, he has a darker side that can instantly kill any foe if he catches them unguarded. Kartein can use this mysterious secondary power of his without remorse, and he displays a creepy smile and a sadistic vibe when he does so. The strongest healer among awakeners remains a mystery, and his motivations even more obscure. Though undoubtedly, he is on the good side of the playing field.

Eden knows something wrong is going on with the world, and not only because he is a former player and knows that the ending of the game is far worse than what people can even imagine. His powers, theoretically come from the Faith of Bacheskar, the Sun God, but in reality, the source of his power is the Noble Hypocrisy trait of his “character,” which lets him draw power from all ill intentions directed to him as divine might. Sometimes, he purposely saves people but doesn’t grant them the mercy a Paladin is expected to bestow upon them. He maintains a stoic yet detached conduct, making his detractors churn in anger and creeping out the weak.

Due to him being a reincarnated person from another world, he is well aware that God doesn’t exist, and he is desperate to prove it, reaching the bottom of the mystery on how he got to this dark fantasy world. In the process, he will smite and tear apart any enemy that dares stand in his way, and he will lie to hide the truth about his lack of faith even to the upper echelons of the church. His Attitude Makes Him Look Like A Villain, But He Cares For Others

Most of the first appearances of Kayden in Eleceed make him look like the perfect villain: Selfish, arrogant, powerful, and demeaning of others. But as life gave him a valuable lesson about what’s truly important, in the form of his ward and disciple Jiwoo, he has now made peace with his former self, and has changed for the better.

Though, his strange obsession with being a cat thanks to his shapeshifting ability has made him look creepy in more than one occasion. This strange “disease” of posing as an animal has a strange voyeurism strain that has been also passed down to Kartein and Pluto, two other powerful awakeners that decided to turn into animals as well. His attitude while writing “challenge letters” to other awakeners has caused more than one misunderstandments, being the one sent to Gestella the creepiest of them all, since it looked like love declaration.

He Might Look Like Your Friend, But Think Again

Carsearin, the Red Dragon decided to embark on his dragon dream, which consists of living among humans posing as one, learning their ways, and then leaving when he tires of them. All dragons do this at some point during their “youth” and they might pose as heroic humans with extremely heightened abilities, but in reality, they are just there for the thrill of pretending and do not care about who they hurt in the process.

This is observed throughout the plot, which presents the resentment of humans being abandoned suddenly by their consorts, who were dragons morphed into humans. So, the King abandoned by his wife (secretly a Red Dragon queen) decided to destroy the rest of the world out of spite. Still, he is most definitely a hero of mankind who will do anything to protect mortals from the selfish power plays of the divinities that rule their world. Even if he has to become a dark avenger once more, and make everyone around him hate him, he will do whatever it takes to save them from these scheming invisible rulers.
