ZOTAC Upgrades The ZONE Handheld

ZOTAC Upgrades The ZONE Handheld

CES 2025 is expected to be packed with plenty of upgrades for gamers and power users alike as tech giants and emerging industry players share the stage to announce new hardware and software and the next iteration of existing solutions. It’s an opportunity to share information across the board.

This is also a time when we expect to see iterative upgrades to existing PC handhelds as companies look to capitalize on the large market that players such as the MSI Claw, Steam Deck, and ASUS’s ROG Ally offerings currently cater to. ZOTAC is expected to be one of the players that will showcase a major upgrade to their last-generation hardware – the ZOTAC ZONE.

A New ZONE Offering From ZOTAC

As initially covered by Videocardz.com, computer manufacturer ZOTAC is expected to announce a large iterative upgrade to its ZONE handheld that should propel it forward considerably, versus the competition that is currently dominated at the higher end by the likes of the ROG Ally X and the MSI Claw 8 AI+, both of which have considerably faster hardware under the hood.

Zotac Zone

The ZOTAC ZONE was introduced at a price tag of $800, something that pits it against competitors that often have faster hardware to offer. This made it a relatively hard pitch in a very competitive handheld PC gaming market that sees plenty of product launches across the year.

Zotac, however, might be looking to step into the market again, but with a significant hardware upgrade to match both its competition as well as be a more future-proof offering for gamers looking to give its product a try.

The New ZOTAC Handheld: Plenty of Upgrade Potential

While ZOTAC has not currently confirmed its intentions, it hasn’t stopped a lot of speculation and leaks already pointing to what the successor to its ZONE handheld would look like. It might be one of the first handhelds in the business to use AMD’s Ryzen AI CPUs that sport both Zen 5 cores and its RDNA 3.5 integrated GPUs.

It is also expected to come in a faster, or possibly larger, RAM configuration in addition to an upgraded SSD, which could mean it could deploy in a 1 TB configuration, which is the new norm for said hardware. It is also expected to sport a white design as per the leaks. A release date or pricing information is sadly not part of the rumors, but given that the competition sits around the $800 mark, ZOTAC’s offering might also aim for that sweet spot as a premium gaming handheld.

With modern handheld consoles such as the Steam Deck able to emulate even PS3 titles on the fly, they come with strong consumer demand, split between users looking to play the latest games on the go at a reduced graphics preset to those who are looking for powerful emulation solutions for all of their legacy consoles.
