GTA 6 Developer Calls Out Debunked December 27 Theory

GTA 6 Developer Calls Out Debunked December 27 Theory

Summary

  • GTA fans have taken a note from the Bloodborne community and come up with a ton of theories about when we’ll get more news.
  • The most recent one suggested December 27 was the holy day after putting a developer’s notebook under a magnifying glass.
  • That theory was debunked, and the developer has since commented on the theory and explained it.

A developer at Rockstar Games has acknowledged and further debunked a recent theory that suggested we’d be getting news about Grand Theft Auto 6 on December 27 thanks to doodles in a notepad.

The long, long wait for GTA 6 felt like it was finally coming to an end in 2023 when Rockstar released the first trailer for the game, which confirmed its setting, protagonists, and even a release window of 2025. That was admittedly quite a lot to start with (as proven by how torn apart the trailer has been), but it’s sadly not gone much further in the year since.

Does GTA 6 Winning Most Anticipated At The Game Awards Matter?

Most Anticipated Game is not a real award, but it still has an interesting history.

With Rockstar refusing to give us anything more to go off of and remaining as mysterious as ever, that’s left it up to fans to try and guess when we’d see or hear something new. This has led to a lot of wild theories, from reading the key art’s bullet holes with Braille to using the position of the moon in GTA 5 screenshots. The most recent rabbit hole is perhaps the wildest, though.

Rockstar Games Employee Calls Out Grand Theft Auto 6’s 27 Theory

Just before the New Year rang in, a Rockstar North employee known as Reckope shared a goodie bag they’d received from the studio to celebrate the holiday season. The photo they shared was put under a magnifying glass by fans desperate to hear more about GTA 6, which led to the December 27 theory being created after a notebook was found that some took as a hint at a new trailer.

As we all know and as most of us predicted, the December 27 theory ended up being incorrect, with nothing coming to pass on the holy day. Now that we’ve all gotten over the sting of no GTA news in 2024, Reckope has commented on the whole situation over on Twitter while wishing everyone a happy new year.

GTA 6 subreddit user Raks- pointed out that Reckope made fun of the situation by saying that their top tip for 2025 is to not accidentally leave notepads with vacation plans lying around when taking photos of merch. This is, of course, a tongue-in-cheek reference to how far some of the clue-hunting went, with some saying it was ridiculous for the developer to want to travel to Florida.

My favourite of the wild leaps is still when someone suggested the cat in the photo had “hair” that was shaped like VI.

And yet, that’s exactly what the doodles in the notebook ended up meaning, which should probably be a sign we need to chill out on theorising for a little bit. I’d love to say that’s the end of the whole situation, but I have a feeling that some fans are still going to choose to believe it was a misdirect.
