Since the update, the game has been deemed unplayable by many, and this problem couldn’t have come at a worse time, as Ubisoft is in the middle of its winter sale, marking Assassin’s Creed Origins as 90% off. The company has faced a rough year, and the Windows 11 24H2 update has only made for a more troublesome 2024. The recent negative reviews for Assassin’s Creed Origins on Steam overwhelmingly mention the various glitches and bugs that still have not been fixed.

User EDD says in their review, “I have been unable to play more than 15 minutes in a period of 5 days.” A common thread throughout the negative reviews laments the game being unplayable with Windows 11 24H2 when it currently has such a huge price cut. The Assassin’s Creed franchise is one of the biggest in the industry, and a game as popular as Assassin’s Creed Origins being unplayable at the moment is a big blow to the series.

Assassin’s Creed Origins continues to run on the Steam Deck, so gamers who have access to this method may want to consider playing on the handheld console until an official fix is brought to Windows 11 PCs.

Ubisoft Will Hopefully Have a Better 2025

Reportedly negotiating a buyout by Tencent, the future of Ubisoft is unclear at the moment. While CEO Yves Guillemot wishes to hold power at the company, a shake-up in leadership could be on the way. After the recent surprising shutdown of XDefiant, Guillemot stated in a company memo, “I want you to know that all my energy is focused on finding the means to guide Ubisoft through these turbulent times.” It’s unclear how Ubisoft will steer itself into less rocky waters, but the new year will hopefully be a stronger chapter for the company.

Before the Windows 11 24H2 update, Assassin’s Creed Origins‘ incoming reviews were mostly “very positive” on Steam.

On the bright side, Ubisoft is set to launch Assassin’s Creed Shadows in February, which could end the company’s recent slump. Unfortunately, the future of Assassin’s Creed Origins on Windows 11 remains a mystery, but hopefully, a fix will be offered sooner rather than later.
