Summary
- Robot vacuums and PS5s don’t mix well, as proven by a video of a Roomba pulling a PlayStation onto the ground.
- Owners must clear obstacles for robot vacuums to avoid accidents, as they are known to wreak havoc.
- Despite the mishap, PS5s are hardy and probably survived the fall.
The “unluckiest guy” has shared a video that will have some PS5 owners thinking twice about buying a Roomba, as the robot vacuum cleaner gets tangled in cables and does the unthinkable. Many people have seen the meme of a hapless Roomba rolling on a side quest out the front door and down the sidewalk. Still more may have viewed the hilarious footage of the circular robot lying kaputt at the bottom of a pool. For many PS5 owners, these clips will have served as a warning to be wary when the two high-tech devices are in the same room.
Robot vacs are generally a great purchase for a gamer, considering that they free up time to get more gaming in. There is even a plugin, released several years ago, that lets players make custom DOOM levels based on the maps created by a Roomba’s sometimes nonsensical cleaning route. Unfortunately, the interaction between gamer and robot vac is not always a happy one.

Astro Bot Developer Didn’t Expect to Win GOTY at The Game Awards
Team Asobi didn’t expect Astro Bot to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, and the developers shared their thoughts about the moment.
Reddit user Creepydarioo shared a video that shows their steadfast robotic vacuum hard at work around a TV stand. From the beginning, it’s clear that all is not well, as the bot has hold of an extension cord and the wire for some other piece of tech sitting on the stand. Sadly, resting on top of the wire is a PlayStation 5, which gets pulled onto the ground, where it then sits abandoned on a tangle of cables as the Roomba continues on its way.
The Unfortunate PS5 Is Probably Okay
Many in the comments were quick to point out that responsibility for the incident lies on the owner. Anyone who’s owned a Roomba or other brand of robot vacuum knows that any potential obstacle or hazard must be cleared out of their way lest they wreak havoc. They knock things over, pull things down, get stuck in corners and, apparently, don’t appreciate the value of gaming consoles. The only vacuum a PlayStation should ever have to deal with is a virtual one in space.
Luckily, the PS5’s fall was only a few inches, and chances are that it was largely undamaged. Gamers may cringe at the sight of Creepydarioo’s video, but consoles are generally hardy pieces of tech with few moving parts. And when not being slightly unruly in people’s homes, robot vacuum cleaners can even serve as an inspiration for gamers. One Tears of the Kingdom player built a Roomba-like machine with arms made from construct heads that swing back and forth to knock out enemies. There are also a number of Roomba-themed video games, including a tongue-in-cheek indie title called Roombo: First Blood about a robot vac defending its home from burglars. And iRobot, the creator of the Roomba, actually released an iOS game in 2011 called Roomba Revenge, with a hero bot vac out to defeat dust bunnies.
PlayStation 5
Sony’s PlayStation 5 is part of the ninth console generation and debuted with a launch lineup that included Demon’s Souls and Astro’s Playroom. The console comes with a Blu-ray disc, although a digital-only edition is also available for a cheaper price.
