Helpful Marvel Rivals Trick Lets You Counter Mantis Stun Ability

A helpful Marvel Rivals player takes to social media to share their useful trick for countering Mantis’ infamous stun ability, Spore Slumber.

One such kit belongs to the Sorcerer Supreme. Many players have used Doctor Strange in Marvel Rivals matches to great effect, and Reddit user DragonFace3 is one of them. In a clip shared with the Marvel Rivals Reddit community, DragonFace3 used Doctor Strange’s Pentagram of Farallah to open a portal in the floor while hovering high above it. With the exit portal aimed at a control point, they dropped into the entry portal at high speed. Just like in Portal 2, they maintained their momentum upon exit, catapulting themselves over an intervening wall and right into the midst of the enemy group, where they unleashed the time-stopping Eye of Agamotto to freeze their foes and score some easy kills. DragonFace3 credited their knowledge of Portal 2 mechanics with the win.

Portal 2 Fan Uses Clever Doctor Strange Portal Play in Marvel Rivals

Fellow players praised DragonFace3’s clever gambit, responding with Portal 2 jokes and quotes from villain GLaDOS. Some pointed out that it was convenient that developer NetEase Games chose to duplicate Portal 2’s physics behavior for Marvel Rivals, as DragonFace3’s strategy would simply not be viable if the Pentagram of Farallah had worked any differently.

Another player praised DragonFace3’s target prioritization upon exit, as they smartly managed to take out the enemy team’s Rocket and Loki before being confronted by Groot. Rocket and Loki are two characters that can be a real thorn in a team’s side, but are squishy and easy to take down when cornered. All in all, the trick could be a new entry in the list of reasons why Doctor Strange portals are considered overpowered by some Marvel Rivals fans.

That said, it is still the early period for Marvel Rivals, and as more players get familiar with the game’s cast, the simpler techniques will eventually stop working on experienced teams. Already, Doctor Strange counters in Marvel Rivals are emerging, thanks to the viral popularity of some of his strategies.
