Pokemon Fans Discuss Which Pokemon Designs They Would Make Changes To

Summary

  • Fans discuss changes they would make to Pokemon designs, like making Dragonite a snake-dragon for better evolution consistency.
  • Suggestions for improving Pokemon designs include letting Smeargle’s tail change colors and bringing back fat Pikachu.
  • Different opinions arise on visual changes for Pokemon, from returning beta versions to portraying Palkia as quadrupedal.

Pokemon fans are sharing their opinions on which Pokemon they would change the design for. Pokemon has introduced many creatures over the years, and some have stood out for their creativity. Examples include Hawlucha, whose appearance is reminiscent of a Mexican wrestler, and Greninja, with its ninja-inspired aura.

However, while the franchise has produced iconic designs, it has spawned Pokemon with divisive appearances. One widely known example is Jynx, whose original design was so controversial that it was tweaked, but it still didn’t make the Gen 1 monster any less weird for most players. Another critter whose appearance was much debated with the release of the Gen 5 games is Garbodor. The Poison-type was labeled as an uncreative design and is remembered by fans in conversations about the least creative-looking Pokemon in the series.

Pokemon Fan Shows Off Pokemon-Themed Christmas Tree and Decorations

One Pokemon fan gets into the holiday spirit by decorating their Christmas tree with all sorts of iconic creatures from the franchise.

Redditor Hour_Career9797 started a thread asking others which “almost perfect” Pokemon they would make minor adjustments to, or which they would change the appearance of completely. One example they cited was Mew, which now has a cute cat-like appearance. But this isn’t the first version of the Mythical Pokemon from Kanto, whose original form had feet almost 180 degrees apart. Its eyes were too close together, making its face look strange, and its tail was completely different, strongly reminiscent of Mega Mewtwo Y.

Fans Cite Dragonite and Octillery As Pokemon They’d Make Visual Changes To

Redditors got excited about the discussion and gave several answers, such as turning Dragonite into a snake-dragon. The Gen 1 critter is often remembered as a Pokemon evolution that makes no sense, as it loses the serpentine design of Dragonair and Dratini. It even changes color from blue and white to yellow, making Dragonite feel more like a separate thing from the Dratini line. A second comment gave an inventive idea of a change to Smeargle, with the tip of its tail changing color as a diversity factor, along the lines of Minun’s different colors and Spinda’s patterns. Another Pokemon fan mentioned Octillery, in which they would like to see the return of the beta version of the Water-type, which basically is a “tank commander octopus.”

While some fans suggested visual changes for regular monsters, one Redditor said they would like to see Palkia portrayed more often as a quadruped due to its lizard form. Another recalled the iconic fat Pikachu, a version of the mascot much loved by the community, which they would like to see again. With over 1,000 pocket monsters introduced, one thing is certain: there will always be Pokemon with big fans and critics.
