Galatea was the first superstring released after launch in Strinova, and she’s also one of the most fun units to use.
Maddelena is one of these free characters, and she has the controller role. If you want to play this character well, you’ll need a lot of patience since she can easily cause panic among enemies.
Maddelena Abilities, Explained
Here’s how Maddelena’s abilities work and how they can help you out in battle:
Pigment Bind |
Maddelena fires a projectile that turns into a paint area upon impact with the ground or a wall. Enemies can’t stringify themselves inside the paint bubble. |

Paint Tracks |
If you hit an enemy with your weapon, they get slowed down and you can see their tracks. |
Paint Bubble |
Maddelena throws another projectile that turns into a giant bubble upon impact. This bubble string blocks enemies and shows their tracks while also making them slow and vulnerable when it bursts. |
Best Maddelena Loadout
Maddelena is one of the few characters in the game that doesn’t need a lot of help from her loadout since her default kit is quite good and her weapon damage is also significant as long as you can hit your shots. However, she uses a DMR as the primary weapon so you can use a Ninjato as the secondary.
This will help you defeat enemies if they get close. As for tactical items, you can first use a tattletale as this will tell you when someone is in a specific area. You can then react to this and throw a paint bubble at them so that they have to take every step carefully.
For her in-game buffs, you’d want to go for the Painter’s Trail awaken ability as this can create multiple paint areas from your location to the location of the skill’s projectile impact. This will help you take away the stringify ability from the enemies completely. Other than that, here are a few important upgrades for her:
- Extended duration for Pigment Bind
- Heavy armor
- Recoil handling in functions
- Stringified DMG reduction in survivability
Tips To Play Maddelena
Maddelena is already a strong character by default, but she can get a lot more value from her kit if you keep these tips in mind:
- Try not to waste your paint bubbles if possible. Ask your teammates to reveal enemies for you and only fire your paint if you know they’re about to arrive in the area. This will help you extensively delay the enemies.
- Don’t forget about your first Awaken ability to heal yourself while you’re sticking to the wall with paint on it. This also makes you invisible, allowing for some stealth plays.
- The best way to shoot as Maddelena is by shooting one shot and then stringifying yourself to prevent any damage. However, this takes some aim training since you have to get used to aiming at the same location in quick successions.
- While enemies can’t stringify themselves in the paint bubble, they can still enter it in string mode if they do it outside. This makes it important to shoot the bubble at the right place.
- Some of the best places for your paint bubbles are the locations where the enemies can’t pass through unless they’re a string.
