Crafting late-game items in Palworld is no easy task, and one reason is the difficulty of obtaining materials from challenging locations. If you’re unprepared during your quest for necessary resources, your character might die, dropping their items and forcing you to return to those areas—a grueling task.

Another challenge lies in the scarcity of materials required for late-game items. One such material is Chromite, a rare mineral that becomes essential in the endgame. Finding Chromite is no simple feat, which is why we’ve prepared this guide to help you.
How To Get Chromite
Chromite is honestly not the easiest ore to obtain compared to other minerals. The main reason Chromite is hard to find is that it’s located underground, meaning you won’t be able to spot it with the naked eye. You’ll need some specific tools or methods to locate it.
To find it, you need to head to Feybreak Island, located in the southwest of your map. However, be cautious—this area is home to high-level Pals, and venturing there too early can lead to disastrous consequences. To make things easier, it’s recommended to be at least level 50-55.
Since the island is primarily populated by Dark- and Earth-type Pals, a team focused on Grass and Dragon types will be highly effective.
Once you’ve arrived at Feybreak Island, you can begin your search for Chromite. However, wandering around aimlessly won’t yield results. Instead, you need to use one of two methods. The first method involves capturing a Pal named Smokie, who has a partner skill called ‘Dig, Dog! Dig!’ that will help you locate Chromite.
The second method requires obtaining an item called the Metal Detector. With the Metal Detector, you can also begin searching for Chromite by exploring the area.
How To Capture Smokie
If you want to find Chromite without using a Metal Detector, you can capture Smokie, a Pal that can be found abundantly in the northern part of Feybreak Island. To capture Smokie easily, make sure you bring high-level spheres with you.
Additionally, there’s a level 55 Smokie Field Alpha Boss on Feybreak Island. This Smokie is located in the Loess Plains, in the southeastern part of the island at coordinates -879, -1467. However, before accessing this area, you must first defeat the following Alpha Pals:
Alpha Pal |
Coordinates |
---|---|
Warsect Terra |
-1021, -1447 |
Gildane |
-761, -1223 |
Kitsun Noct |
-1036, -1144 |
Simply capturing Smokie won’t be enough. To activate its partner skill ‘Dig, Dog! Dig!’, you’ll also need to craft Smokie’s Harness. This requires you to be at least level 56 and have the following materials:
Even if you’re planning to use a Metal Detector, capturing Smokie is still worthwhile, as it passively increases the amount of Chromite you can obtain.
How To Obtain A Metal Detector
It’s also possible to find Chromite without capturing Smokie by using the Metal Detector item. To unlock the blueprint for the Metal Detector, you must reach level 56. Once you’ve unlocked the blueprint, you can craft it at a Production Assembly Line II station. Here are the materials needed for the Metal Detector:
Material |
Amount |
---|---|
Plasteel |
x30 |
Paldium Fragment |
x100 |
x30 |
|
Nightstar Sand |
x20 |
To make the Metal Detector work, simply hold it in your hand. If you’re close to Chromite, the grid-like light it emits will change from blue to red and will start flashing faster.
Where To Find Chromite
Once you’ve equipped yourself with either the Metal Detector or captured Smokie (and crafted Smokie’s Harness), you’re ready to begin your search for the elusive Chromite. Head over to Feybreak Island, where this valuable mineral can be found, and start your hunt.
However, simply wandering aimlessly around the island won’t help—you’ll need to know exactly where to search to make your expedition worthwhile. Chromite is hidden within specific caves and dungeons scattered across Feybreak Island.
It’s important to note that these locations are guarded by Alpha Pals or Bounty enemies, which means you’ll likely face challenging battles along the way. Make sure you’re well-prepared, both in terms of your team and your resources, before venturing into these areas.
While Chromite nodes are present in caves, it’s worth mentioning that dungeons tend to have larger quantities of Chromite. However, dungeons are significantly bigger and require more time and effort to explore thoroughly. This means you’ll need to dedicate some time to fully investigate these areas in order to find the Chromite you’re looking for.
To make your search easier, here are the precise coordinates of caves and dungeons on Feybreak Island where Chromite can be located:
Coordinates |
Location Type |
---|---|
-1037, -1197 |
Cave |
-969, -977 |
Cave |
-733, -1029 |
Cave |
-848, -957 |
Dungeon |
-1000, -1030 |
Dungeon |
-764, -1195 |
Dungeon |
-1100, -824 |
Dungeon |
Additionally, defeating Silvegis, located near the Shield Dragon Tunnel at coordinates (-987, -1029), will yield 2-3 Chromite. You can also breed Silvegis and butcher it with a Meat Cleaver to obtain Chromite continuously. To breed Silvegis, follow this process:
First Parent |
Second Parent |
---|---|
Menasting Terra |
Cryolinx Terra |
Blazemut Ryu |
Azurmane |
Cryolinx |
Warsect Terra |
Pyrin Noct |
Bastigor |
Faleris Aqua |
Cryolinx Terra |
Orserk |
Warsect Terra |
Silvegis |

However, this method can be slower compared to actively searching for Chromite nodes. Therefore, exploring and mining Chromite is often the faster option.
Another method for obtaining Chromite is through Expeditions. By sending your Pals on an expedition to the Dark Cave of Feybreak, you can collect not only Chromite but also other valuable items that may prove useful in your adventures. However, keep in mind that only Dark-type Pals are eligible to embark on this expedition.
Additionally, Dark Cave of Feybreak is known as a high-risk area, so if you send your Pals there without sufficient firepower, the Expedition will take longer. Ensuring your team has enough firepower, or even more than necessary, will work to your advantage.
This expedition takes one hour to complete, and as a reward, you can obtain an average of 40 Chromite. While this method can be a reliable source of Chromite over time, it is quite time-consuming.
Therefore, sending your best Pals and a large number of them can further shorten this one-hour duration. This way, you can gain more Chromite through Expeditions. If you want, you can even build additional Pal Expedition Stations in other bases to send another group of Pals to search for more Chromite.
Another way to obtain Chromite is through the Arrogant Pal Critic, who occasionally rewards players with Chromite. However, to receive this reward, you must show the Critic specific Pals that they are looking for. While this can be a useful option in some cases, it’s worth noting that the process is not very reliable or efficient as a primary method of gathering Chromite.
The Arrogant Pal Critic can be found in various locations such as Small Settlement, Dune Shelter, and Frostalion Island. However, due to the unpredictability of their requests and rewards, relying solely on this method for obtaining Chromite is not advisable.
What Is Chromite Used For?
Chromite may not have much use on its own, but it is an incredibly important resource because it is required to craft Hexolite. Hexolite is an ingot used for late-game technologies and gear, making Chromite a highly valuable mineral. Each Hexolite requires five Chromite to craft.
