Surviving in Lego Fortnite Odyssey won’t exactly be an easy feat. You’ll need to stave off your hunger, farm for materials to craft better items, and avoid being hurt by extreme temperatures. You’ll come across numerous types of enemies to fight, too, from nighttime skeletons to roaming wolves and more.

Lego Fortnite: How To Get The Grappler
Here’s everything you need to know about how to unlock the Grappler and use it in Lego Fortnite.
One of the toughest enemies you’ll have to face off against is the enormous Brutes. Early on, encountering one of these would be a one-way ticket to respawning. After getting stronger weapons and gear, you’ll eventually want to seek them out for their loot. Here’s how to defeat Brutes and how to get Brute Scales.
Updated December 31, 2024 by Meg Pelliccio: We’ve updated this article to include the latest information from the Odyssey update.
Where To Find All Types Of Brutes
As you explore the Grasslands, the starting location in the game, you might come across one of the regular Brutes. They have glowing green eyes, spiky skin, and large hammer-like arms. It’s best to avoid these until you get better gear.
In total, there are three different types of Brutes as you explore different biomes.

There aren’t specific spawn points for Brutes, so you will need to stumble across one randomly as it patrols its territory. Alternatively, if you are in a Sandbox world, you can choose to simply spawn them.
If you are playing in Expert Mode or have toggled Storm-wild enemies on in your settings, you may also encounter Storm-wild Brute variants.
These look very similar to their normal counterparts but have purple-glowing eyes and purple-glowing joints. Storm-wild enemies deal far more damage, have more health, and move much faster than regular enemies.
How To Defeat Brutes
While there are different types of Brutes, what you’ll need to know to defeat them will largely remain the same. They share the same attack patterns, but Sand Brutes (and sequentially Frost Brutes), will be stronger than the previous type of Brute. This means they have a higher health pool and deal more damage.
Preparation
If you’re going Brute hunting, there are a few things you should do beforehand:
- Take a villager into battle with you. Since you can assign jobs to villagers, have one accompany you on your adventure. Your fighting companion can often distract a Brute, and take the brunt of their attacks. This will let you focus on attacking the Brutes with your weapons.
- Ensure you have Charms equipped that offer additional Health and Defense.
- Ensure your weapons are as strong as possible using the best materials, we recommend a melee weapon, ranged weapon, and a Shield. Don’t forget to give your NPC a decent weapon too.
- Take consumables with you, like food, to help recover your health in a pinch.
Brute Moveset
First, you need to know the Brute’s attack patterns. There are four main attacks a Brute will use against you.
- A sweeping punch with its arms
- A huge AoE slam down
- A forward earthquake-style AoE
- A poisonous projectile shot
Most of these attacks can be avoided with a well-timed dodge. The Brutes usually take a second to wind up an attack, giving you a clue of what they are about to do. Wait for an opportune moment, and attack with the strongest weapons you have.
Battle Strategy
Because Brutes can deal so much damage with just one swing, the best thing to do is let your NPC run in and tackle the Brute to distract them and keep them away. Ranged weapons are great, especially Pistols that have recoil so they send you further out of harm’s way when you shoot.
You can also drop food items to distract Brutes as they will stop to eat the food.
However, keeping your distance means the Brute will be more likely to fire poisonous projectiles. These leave a small poisonous AoE that lingers for a short time, so be careful not to step in them.
If you’re confident in your health and defence, or the Brute doesn’t have much health remaining, feel free to run in and whack it with your melee weapon.
What Are Brute Scales For?
Brute Scales are mainly used to craft better gear and charms. With Odyssey’s component-based crafting, the rarer and stronger crafting resources you use, the better equipment you’ll make, so grabbing some rare Brute Scales is a must.
Keep on the lookout for Brute Scales in chests. This is a lucky way to get Brute Scales without having to fight the Brutes themselves.
