This year’s New Year’s Event will be available for three days, spanning from Monday, December 30, 2024, at 10am local time, to Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 8pm local time. Our complete guide for this event can be found below, including tips and recommendations to make the most of this relatively brief event.
Event Bonus
The 2025 New Year’s Event will only have one bonus, available to all players who are playing during the three days of this event. During the event window, you will earn 2,025 XP each time you catch a Pokemon using an Excellent Throw.
You can use the Lucky Egg item to increase the XP you earn from this.
Using this item will double the XP that you earn for 30 minutes.
Event Wild Encounter Pokemon
There will be three event-themed Pokemon appearing in the wild during the event window, all wearing costumes. Additionally, the three featured Pokemon for this event will have increased odds of being Shiny.
These three event-themed Pokemon include:
- Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit
- Jigglypuff wearing a ribbon
- Wurmple wearing a party hat

Event Raid Pokemon
There will also be event-themed costumed Pokemon appearing in both One-Star and Three-Star Raids. Similar to the wild encounter Pokemon, these event-themed Raid Pokemon will have increased chances of being Shiny when encountered after the completion of their Raid.

Event Research
Free Timed Research
All players will be granted access to Timed Research for this event, free of charge. Completing the tasks that are part of this Timed Research will reward you with event-themed Pokemon encounters and Stardust.
Paid Timed Research
You will also be able to purchase additional Timed Research for this event, costing $2.00 USD at the Pokemon Go in-game shop. Completing the tasks from this Timed Research will reward you with:
- 2,025 Stardust
- Three Lucky Eggs
- Three Premium Battle Passes
- Event-themed Pokemon encounters
Event Field Research Tasks
There will also be Event Field Research Tasks available to claim from different PokeStops you visit and spin. Completing the tasks required for these Field Research Tasks will reward you with different event-themed Pokemon encounters.
