Fortnite added alternative styles for cosmetics back in Chapter 1 Season 4; they’ve been part of the game for most of its lifespan. Carbide was the first skin to feature additional styles, followed by the infamous Omega, which caused many gamers to grind for XP at the end of the season so they could reach level 80 and unlock lights for it. Those who didn’t get there on time were locked out of Omega’s light style for good. In Fortnite, players have an in-game profile picture that matches their currently equipped skin. However, it does not change based on the style that has been selected, and this is particularly noticeable for skins with styles that are significantly different compared to the default version of the skin. Another complaint is the fact that it’s not possible to pick a style if it’s linked to a built-in emote, and gamers are forced to emote at the start of every match if they want to change to that style.
