It may be hard to believe, but come next year, the Super Mario Bros. franchise will be celebrating another major milestone. After celebrating 35 years of platforming in 2020, the franchise will mark 40 years in 2025.
The 35th anniversary brought some neat goodies, like the Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation, so there’s no telling what to expect. That said, fans are already dreaming of a scenario in which Bowser gets his own title. And if the evil Koopa were to get his own solo adventure, what would it look like? Well, these fans have some concepts in mind.

Bowser Meets Devil May Cry
In a massive Reddit thread dedicated to Bowser video game concepts, fans were given the choice of an RPG, hack-and-slash or platformer for a potential game. As it turns out, a large portion of fans were in unison that a Bowser adventure should be a hack-and-slash.
“A Mario Hack-‘n-Slash game with Bowser as the protagonist would be awesome,” a user wrote. “Name it Koopa Warriors or something and have Mario as the final boss.”
Oddly enough, it wouldn’t be the first time a Nintendo property joined the genre. Over the years, The Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem have all lent themselves to Musou games, making a Bowser adventure not too far-fetched.
Elsewhere, fans came up with the idea of a Bowser-themed beat ’em up. “I’m definitely thinking a side-scrolling beat ’em up like Double Dragon,” one user wrote. According to gamers, a beat ’em up would properly showcase Bowser’s own strengths.
In a twist that may work, one user proposed a Tactics game starring Bowser. “Tactics game where you are in charge of his army and, yes, (you) get to utilize Bowser as well!” a user suggested. Considering that Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo’s franchises, a Bowser x Tactics game wouldn’t be too hard to imagine.
Of course, it remains to be seen if Bowser will get his own adventure come 2025, but you only get one 40th anniversary. And seeing as the Year of Shadow was a success, a Year of Bowser could be equally fruitful.
