Horror and sci-fi fans wouldn’t complain if every book or short story by Stephen King became a movie or TV show. Since he is so prolific and still has a large body of work that hasn’t been adapted yet, there are always more terrifying tales ready and waiting. The Osgood Perkins adaptation of King’s short story The Monkey is coming soon, and, asreported byJoblo.com, there is a new clip of The Monkey that King fans will want to see.

Writer/director Osgood Perkins introduced the clip, which is called “Something’s Burning in the Kitchen,” and said:

“As a Christmas present for all of you, I’m going to be showing you a short scene. The movie itself is pretty dark but a lot of fun with some really insane kills in it keeping in the spirit of the short story written by Mr. King.”

One Of Mike Flanagan’s Stephen King Adaptations Has A Release Date

Mike Flanagan is adapting a few of Stephen King’s legendary scary stories for film and TV, and now fans can find out about one release date.

Christian Convery portrays the younger versions of twins Bill and Hall in the film adaptation of King’s short story, and Theo James portrays them when they’re older. In the clip, which starts with a creepy image of a weather vain creaking in the night, a woman wakes up and walks down some (also very creaky) stairs to the kitchen. She has a gun in her hand, and it’s clear that she thinks there is a threat in her home. The clip ends with a woman running out of her house with her head on fire. Perkins then told fans that they could “see the rest in theaters February 21st, 2025.”

Perkins is a beloved horror director known for Gretel & Hansel, the Maika Monroe 2024 horror movie Longlegs, and I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. He is also an actor known for playing Young Norman Bates in Psycho II in 1983 and appearing in movies such as Legally Blonde, Nope, and 2009’s Star Trek.

In an interview with Deadline about Longlegs, Perkins answered a question about making such a scary movie. He said:

“I only set out to make people feel good. I never set out to make people feel bad, and I don’t know that any film director does, but I know that I don’t. And I think people don’t feel bad. I think people dig the feeling that they’re having, so that’s great. But my intention was just to make something I thought was cool. That’s all.”

This same sentiment can likely be applied to The Monkey. From this short clip alone, it’s clear that this adaptation is a genuinely creepy one. As the title suggests, the short story and film are about a toy monkey and the horrifying effect it has on twin brothers. Like other short stories and novels by King, including Carrie which is getting a Mike Flanagan TV adaptation, The Monkey is about family and the dark parts of life, including death, fear, grief, and loss. February 2025 will be here soon and King fans can race to the theater.
