Throughout the 80s, the beloved Mattel franchise Masters of the Universe was a household staple within most kids’ homes as they yelled at the TV “I have the power!” as they simultaneously waved around whatever object they made into a sword. Now, it seems as though that iconic power never really went away as a reboot is in the works to bring it to the big screen for the first time since 1987 in a new live-action movie, but some changes could be on the horizon for He-Man this time around.
Masters of the Universe quickly became one of the most popular media franchises of the 1980s with a host of action-figure toys to match its success. Not only did the cartoon series that ran from 1983-1985 spawn a line of comic books and video games, but a movie was made too in 1987, which starred The Expendables’ Dolph Lundgren as the muscled He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor, Courteney Cox as Julie Winston and Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn. After quite a few delays and cancelations, Masters of the Universe looks finally set to bring its nostalgic vibes in the summer of 2026 with a bunch of well-known actors at its helm.

Masters of the Universe’ Rumored Plot Could See He-Man’s Origin Overhauled
According to insider Daniel Richtman via ComicBookMovie, Masters of the Universe‘s rumored plot details reveal that Prince Adam, aka He-Man, will be a “regular guy” in the real world and work in an office job like almost all normal folk, which doesn’t sound too superhero-like if true. The world of Eternia will also seemingly be stories He-Man had heard while growing up throughout his childhood. This rumor certainly seems to be a jump from the cartoons that saw Prince Adam have his feet primarily on the planet of Eternia and this would be the first time viewers would see him on Earth, although the 1987 movie saw He-Man travel to Earth to stop Skeletor from grabbing a magic key that would allow him to take over the entire universe.
Masters of the Universe rumored plot details – “10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
As for the cast of the Masters of the Universe reboot, it has been rumored that Idris Elba could be picking up the role of Man-At-Arms, a character in the Masters of the Universe franchise who served as Prince Adam’s mentor and captain of the royal guard. Other cast members include the likes of Nicholas Galitzine in the role of He-Man, musician and actor Jared Leto, who will play the big bad evil villain Skeletor, Alison Brie for the role of Evil-Lyn, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.
Masters of the Universe is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2026
