Marvel Rivals Announces Expansive New Collaboration

Marvel Rivals announces that the team-based hero shooter will be launching another expansive new collaboration in the near future.

MRivalsMedia posted a gameplay clip on Twitter showing that Venom, Wolverine, Magik, Star-Lord, and Doctor Strange are effectively nerfed when a device runs the game at 30 frames per second. For Venom, the video shows the character crawling in circles on a wall. When observing the hero’s movement, it’s easy to see that Venom is moving slower and in a wider circle on the device running the title at 30 FPS. For Magik, the disparity seems to affect her dash, which launches an enemy into the air on a hit. The video shows two shots of Magik at the same starting line within the game’s practice range. When using the dash at 30 FPS, the hero falls short of hitting the target. At 160 FPS, she easily hits the target, knocking them into the air and dealing damage. While some fans have asked Marvel Rivals to nerf characters like Hawkeye, many fans have been shocked to learn that frame rates could be hindering heroes.

Five Heroes Are Effectively Nerfed When Marvel Rivals Runs at 30 FPS

When looking at the clip of Wolverine rushing in to attack an enemy, it appears as if he not only eliminates the enemy faster at a higher frame rate, but also finishes them off with fewer hits. Similarly, the clip of Star-Lord using his ultimate ability shows the hero defeating an enemy quicker with a higher frame rate. In the clip with Doctor Strange, the disparity seems to affect the distance the hero can jump. Many fans are concerned that addressing the issue could be far more complex than rebalancing something like Jeff the Land Shark’s ultimate ability in Marvel Rivals.

As more players sink time into the game, members of the community are finding ways to call out issues and provide feedback to NetEase Games. One fan recently wrote about some abilities looking too similar in Marvel Rivals, creating confusion in the middle of a match. While plenty of gamers have critiqued the current state of hero shooter, much of the community has been enthusiastically positive about their experience so far.
