Over on the Rivals subreddit, one player has found that five characters are at a significant disadvantage for players who are using older hardware.
Five Marvel Rivals Characters Disadvantaged With Low FPS
The findings were shared by Reddit user nyin_, who compared several different characters at both 30 fps and 160 fps. They found that, because of the way Marvel Rivals is programmed, certain physics are tied to the game’s frame rate.
The first character impacted by a lower frame rate is Doctor Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme’s aerial movement is significantly hampered at a lower FPS, with nyin’s video showing the character gliding to almost 15 meters at 160 fps, but under 10 meters at 30.
Wolverine’s slash attack is the second casualty of a lower frame rate, with players playing at a higher frame rate able to output damage more quickly.
Magik is another character whose movement is impacted, with Magik’s uppercut move seemingly able to reach further at a higher fps. Venom is much the same, with the hero moving at a much more fluid pace at 160 fps. Great for his cake.
Star-Lord is the final character at a major disadvantage with a lower frame rate. When using his Blaster Barrage, he’s able to deal more damage to his opponent, effectively KO’ing them quicker.
The findings have caused major frustration in the Marvel Rivals community, and it will be interesting to see if the game’s developers address them to ensure everybody is on a level playing field, regardless of their PC setup.
