A Wolfenstein 3 Could Work Wonders with Indiana Jones’ Best Weapon

A Wolfenstein 3 Could Work Wonders with Indiana Jones’ Best Weapon

A new chapter in the Wolfenstein franchise has been long-awaited, and while it has yet to be officially confirmed, the success of developer MachineGames’ recent venture, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, may make a third game more likely. Although there was excitement for The Great Circle, a lot of gamers didn’t exactly know what to expect from the first-person adventure, but it has proven to be an exciting title to close out the year. This will hopefully help bring another Wolfenstein entry to life, and if it does, there is one specific mechanic MachineGames may want to bring over from The Great Circle.

Despite both games focusing on bringing a beat-down to Nazis, the two games are rather different in their gameplay. However, one of Indiana Jones’ most iconic weapons could serve as a source of inspiration in a potential Wolfenstein 3. Indiana Jones and his trusted whip go hand-in-hand, and MachineGames could possibly have a lot of fun bringing The Great Circle‘s whip mechanics to the alternate history franchise.

The next Fallout game is likely far away, but the next entry could copy a fun trick from the Doom and Wolfenstein franchises.

Wolfenstein 3 May Want to Take Notes on The Great Circle’s Whip Mechanics

Indiana Jones’ Whip in The Great Circle Gives Players a Versatile Tool

  • Combat and defense
  • Traversal

Whether one needs to swing across gaps or swat weapons out of an oncoming enemy’s grasp, the whip is a jack of all trades. The Great Circle puts a heavy emphasis on melee, and Indy’s whip helps players get the upper hand on enemies. It’s incredibly satisfying, as it leaves an opponent awkwardly left to use their own hands. It’s easy to imagine this same type of mechanic in Wolfenstein‘s setting. However, if such a mechanic were to be added to the Nazi-fighting franchise, some upgrades may need to be made.

In The Great Circle, avoid using guns unless absolutely necessary. Firing a gun will immediately alert other enemies to Indy’s location, making missions even more difficult.

Whip Mechanics in Wolfenstein 3 Would Need an Upgrade

The obvious change that would need to be made for such a mechanic would be a more technically advanced version of a whip. In the world of Wolfenstein, the world’s technology has become far more evolved, and an ordinary run-of-the-mill whip wouldn’t exactly do the trick against a tech-enhanced Nazi. Perhaps a strong metal whip or even a grappling hook could nail the same mechanics that The Great Circle does so well.

Hacking at oncoming Nazis or jumping across large chasms with a high-tech whip or grappling hook could be a great new ingredient that makes a third Wolfenstein stand out from its predecessors. The Great Circle showcases just how satisfying it is to whip a gun out of a Nazi’s hand, and adding such a mechanic to Wolfenstein feels like a given.

Wolfenstein 3 May Be Far Off Into the Future

As of now, there has only been speculation about the state of Wolfenstein 3. Former Bethesda VP Pete Hines once stated in a past interview with Metro, “Absolutely, we’re making a Wolfenstein 3.” While that sounds promising, this statement was made back in 2018. Now that six years have passed, there is no telling what the game plan for MachineGames currently is. While a third Wolfenstein game would be fantastic news, it’s unclear if that is what lies next on MachineGames’ horizon.

The latest entry in the Wolfenstein franchise is 2019’s Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

Even though the future of Wolfenstein seems murky at the moment, The Great Circle and its success have put a spotlight on MachineGames once again, which could be promising. Only time will tell, but if Wolfenstein 3 ever sees the light of day, it will be fascinating to see if MachinesGames’ work on The Great Circle brings any major influence.
