Hades 2 was announced in a surprise drop in 2023, and was released on Early Access in May 2024. Since then, it’s received several quality-of-life updates and refinements alongside a major content update. Hades 2 players already playing Early Access can expect at least two more major updates in 2025, while those awaiting the official 1.0 release may see Hades 2 release later in 2025.
In May 2025, Hades 2 will have been in Early Access for one year, a far shorter time period than Hades‘ Early Access period, which was nearly two years. This could be due to several factors, one of which being that this is the first sequel Supergiant has made, and has Hades as a foundation to build upon, alongside having streamlined its Early Access process. Players can expect the addition of different types of enemies, more music, boons, and regions, and a possible expansion of storylines leading up to Hades 2‘s final release.

The First Major Update for Hades 2 Should Be Early 2025
Hades 2’s Early Access Will Add Boons, Foes, and a New Region
Hades 2‘s Early Access was already bigger than Hades at launch, and its Olympic Update added a new weapon, region, boss, foes, gods, boons, voiced lines, and music. Supergiant’s notes that came alongside the update confirmed that the next major update would add another Surface region beyond the one added in the Olympic Update, alongside the other features that were included in the Olympic Update. SuperGiant has noted that only once this new region is added to the Surface Route will the main structure be considered complete, so players have plenty to look forward to in Early Access even without the conclusion of the main story.
The Olympic Update’s effects reached beyond the Surface Route, and into the Crossroads and the Underworld itself, with new boons affecting the Underworld Route, Underworld storylines expanding, and the changes to weapons affecting every part of gameplay. Hades 2 will likely look like a very different game after two more similar updates. With each major update comes the need for bug fixes, smoothing performance, and balancing gameplay, so there is likely still plenty left to be done before Hades 2 is ready for its full release.
Predicting Hades 2’s Anticipated 2025 Release
Hades 2 Will Get At Least Two Major Updates Before Full Release
Supergiant also confirmed that the next major update will be launched in early 2025, and that it will not be the last of such updates for Hades 2. This implies that Hades 2 still has a while to go in Early Access before the game’s official launch, but Early Access players can look forward to at least two more content updates in the first half of 2025. Based on Supergiant’s previous releases, Hades 2 could see its official release as early as May or July 2025.
While this means that it had a much shorter Early Access period than Hades, it also entered Early Access in a more advanced state, with Supergiant stating they had learned much from Hades‘ Early Access and had refined the Early Access development stage. Hades 2 is several times bigger than Hades but, as a sequel with a streamlined process, Hades 2‘s development time may be shorter. Alternatively, Hades 2 could release in the second half of 2025, giving Supergiant plenty of time to release two major updates and smaller performance patches.
