As mentioned, the Basic Ffire is all a player needs to keep warm in the cold of the night, but it still makes sense to build a Hunting Shelter early on. Having a shelter gives two benefits. The Hunting Shelter is quick and easy to build and can be situated right next to a Basic Fire. The player will need to use their axe (which is a spawn item) to chop down a few trees to get the necessary logs, but this is pretty quick to accomplish.

Building a Water Collector makes sense, and it is something that every player will want to craft. It collects rainwater, which players can then drink. The turtle shell is very easy to get, as there are plenty of turtles along the shoreline of every beach.

The only way to become entirely safe from cannibal attacks in The Forest, is to build a base they cannot get to. There are a few options for doing this.
