Summary
- One of the most fair complaints about Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is its lack of maps.
- Perhaps the biggest omission is the lack of any space maps, a staple of previous Dragon Ball games.
- This issue has been fixed with a mod called Sparking Redux which adds two Space-themed maps alongside Kame House.
A talented Dragon Ball fan is working on a mod for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero titled Sparking Redux which, among other things, finally gives players the space maps they’ve been begging for.
As firmly as I’ll stand by my belief that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is one of the best Dragon Ball games of all time, I’ll concede that it does have a few issues. None of them are too major and a lot are seemingly being worked on with DLC and patches, but they’re certainly there. Take the range of maps, for example.

Beyond the limited customisation options, the biggest problem I have with Sparking Zero is how small the map selection is, with a ton of iconic locations and setpieces missing from the game. While Bandai hasn’t confirmed that more maps are going to be added (although it seems likely), that issue is already being fixed thanks to a promising mod.
Sparking Redux Is Adding In A Bunch Of Fan-Requested Maps
The mod in question is called Sparking Redux and comes from Twitter user NovaTedd, who has been sharing their progress over the past few months. Last week, NovaTedd shared their most promising update yet, which confirms that the mod is going to be adding several space maps to the game that previously featured in Budokai Tenkaichi.
Redux’s first space map is simply titled “Space”, a location that’s appeared throughout the series but seems to be specifically focused on the time Goku fought Beerus in Battle of Gods. Alongside that, Redux will also be adding their version of the Planet Vegeta map from BT3, which has a Frieza ship floating above the planet.
Considering how surprisingly lacking in space maps Sparking Zero is currently, Redux is doing Shenron’s work a bit by including two of the most requested variants. That’s not all, though, as a previous update on the mod showcased an arena based on Kame House, another Budokai Tenkaichi staple that’s missing currently.
The first drop for the mod just released a few days ago on December 25 and can be accessed through NovaTedd’s Patreon page. With new maps for Sparking looking more like a hope than anything right now, it might just be worth it for you PC players.
