Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Holiday Pack Controversy Explained

Pokemon TCG Pocket's Holiday Pack Controversy Explained

December has certainly been a great month for Pokemon TCG Pocket fans. The month has introduced players to the Mythical Island expansion pack, introducing 86 new cards to the game which people can either battle with or simply look at as they add them to their collection. Aside from that, the game has also added holiday event missions, giving players worthwhile rewards for simply logging in and collecting them daily. However, this comes with a few concerns that have raised the eyebrows of players due to how they could have been easily avoided.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s introduction of the Mythical Island pack has updated the game in ways that benefit both battlers and collectors within the game. Players regularly use their hard-earned in-game resources or real-life currency just to obtain more of the expansion’s new cards, showing just how popular they are. Pokemon TCG Pocket allows players to acquire bonus Mythical Island packs aside from the free ones obtained daily for a limited time, as they are given away as rewards during the newly introduced holiday event. As good as the gifted packs may be, they do not offer some bonuses that usually come through opening them, making players question why that is.

The Concerns That Come With the Holiday Event’s Free Mythical Island Packs

While the holiday event is great for giving players more opportunities to collect all the cards in the Mythical Island expansion, that does not dissuade fans from wondering why the free packs obtained from it do not provide the bonuses that should come with them. This can be off-putting to some, as it means there will be no extra rewards to look forward to, such as:

  • The free holiday event packs do not count toward the 60-pack-themed mission, which would have made it easier for them to quickly obtain the rewards that come with completing it such as the Mew-themed coin and playmat.
  • They do not count in the daily missions of having to open a pack, forcing players to time when they should open their free daily boosters instead of using what’s already given to them for free.
  • The packs do not provide players with Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s pack points, which normally would have been given for simply opening them.

It is easy to see why players have some concerns regarding the free holiday event packs, as it feels as if they should lead towards the bonuses they were meant to give. However, this does not take away that they are still great gifts, as people are essentially given the opportunity for more cards without having to spend or do anything to get them.

Why It’s Likely the Pokemon Company Will Not Do Anything About the Situation

Although, unfortunately, holiday event gift packs do not count towards obtaining more pack points, the aspect of it not helping towards completing missions is somewhat understandable and one of the reasons why The Pokemon Company will likely have no intention of addressing the concerns. It is clearly stated that they require stamina points normally used to farm Pokemon TCG Pocket’s cards. With the holiday event packs not requiring any, it’s no wonder why opening them won’t count toward the progression of obtaining the extra bonuses. Another good reason the developer will likely not address the concerns is that the event is already giving away free packs, which is very generous. So, instead of relying on missions or pack points to obtain extra cards, players are gifted what they were working towards immediately, making it worthwhile even without the bonuses.

While Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s holiday event packs come with a catch, they’re still a great way to incentivize players into playing the game. Even with the concerns, people can still enjoy the fact that they are getting something for free, which will ultimately help build up their collection that they can either display or use for fun battles.
